He leaned against the wall and stood up with her. Seeing a six-foot-two man standing completely drenched in the single bathroom felt overwhelmingly suffocating.
Virginia didn't dare to look at him. After leaving the bathroom, she dug out a brand-new men's tracksuit.
These were from her last business trip when Kian had asked her to pick them up, but she had forgotten to give them to him after coming back, leaving them sitting at her place.
"They're new. Change out of your wet clothes first." She placed the clothes on the cabinet by the bathroom door and turned to leave.
Ten minutes later, Archer walked out wearing the ill-fitting sportswear. His eyes were dark, swirling with emotions that were impossible to read.
Coming out of the bathroom, his hair wasn't entirely dry and was still dripping water.
Seeing this, Virginia handed him a towel. "Dry it yourself. Don't drip water everywhere."
Archer took the towel and naturally sat down on the sofa.
Seeing that he had no intention of leaving, Virginia paused. "You..."
He draped the towel over his shoulders, slowly drying his hair. His voice had returned to its usual low pitch, though a faint trace of hoarseness could still be heard. "I'll leave first thing in the morning."
She looked at him for a few seconds. "Suit yourself."
In this state, and refusing to go to the hospital, she couldn't exactly rest easy letting him leave like this.
Around two in the morning, Virginia quietly came out of her room.
She hadn't been able to sleep, unable to shake her worry for him.
The living room lights were off, but she could faintly see a figure on the sofa.
Virginia used her phone screen for light. As she got closer, she saw Archer wasn't using a blanket and was still in that same tracksuit.
She frowned and reached out to feel his forehead.
He was freezing.
Worried he might catch a fever, she turned to grab a blanket, but her wrist was suddenly caught.
The grip wasn't heavy, but she couldn't break free.
"...Archer?"
He didn't open his eyes. His voice was muffled, laced with exhaustion and the lingering, abrasive effects of the drug. "Don't go."
Virginia froze in place.
