His Wicked Obsession (Archer and Virginia) novel Chapter 202

He had been so groggy and disoriented at the time that he could barely see anything, only catching a vague glimpse of a jade pendant swaying before his eyes.

"It seems you do remember." Madeline's voice was gentle yet carried a hint of firmness. "I suppose you also remember that the person who saved you back then was Chloe."

Archer did not respond, but his fingers unconsciously tightened around the armrest of the sofa.

"Archer, you know better than anyone what Chloe's mental state is like right now." Madeline pushed the velvet box toward him. "I'm not asking for much. I only beg that you look at the fact that she saved your life... and stop giving her the cold shoulder."

Silence.

After a long, drawn-out silence, Archer finally spoke.

"I understand. I will take care of her until she recovers."

Madeline frowned.

That was not exactly what she wanted to hear.

But... she understood the kind of man Archer was. Since he made a promise, he would undoubtedly keep it.

Breathing a sigh of relief, she decided not to push her luck and stood up to take her leave.

...

When Virginia returned from work, there was a brand new sofa in the living room.

To be precise, she had ordered it online and had the furniture company deliver it to the apartment.

The old two-seater had been far too short. With Archer standing over six feet tall, he had been forced to sleep with his legs curled up every night.

She wasn't doing it out of pity; it was purely because watching him massage his stiff neck every morning was an absolute eyesore.

The new sofa was a deep charcoal gray, extra long and wide, and came with memory foam cushions.

When Archer walked through the door, his footsteps paused.

He stared at the sofa for a few seconds without saying a word, then turned and walked into the kitchen with a sudden darkness in his predatory gaze.

Virginia noticed that evening at dinner, the curve of his lips was slightly more pronounced than usual.

Early the next morning, shortly before six-thirty, Virginia was startled awake by the sound of a pot crashing to the kitchen floor.

Without thinking, she threw on a sheer cardigan and rushed out of her bedroom. Just as she reached the kitchen doorway, she saw Archer standing with his back to her, running cold water over his arm at the sink.
