His Wicked Obsession (Archer and Virginia) novel Chapter 72

She rambled on, full of care for Virginia.

This put a lump in Virginia's throat, and she couldn't help but recall her one-year marriage to Archer.

Back then, Helena treated her very well, treating her like her own biological daughter.

It was the rare familial love she had experienced in her limited life.

She always kept it in her heart.

Unfortunately, things had changed. Meeting again, she could only call her "Helena."

"Madeline really is something. She doesn't know how to cherish a good daughter like you, and instead treats a worthless rock like a diamond. She only cares about that unpresentable adopted daughter!"

Helena grew angrier as she spoke. If her son hadn't insisted on getting entangled with the Caldwells, she would have confronted them to stand up for Virginia!

"Helena, please don't say that. They raised Chloe for nearly twenty years. That bond can't be replaced by anyone."

Virginia's voice was calm.

But the more she acted like this, the more Helena's heart ached for her.

"Ginny, come over for dinner tonight."

Virginia's hand stiffened slightly. "Helena, I..."

"Don't refuse. I asked your assistant before I came in, and she said you didn't have much work this afternoon," Helena interrupted.

"Didn't you used to love the mushroom soup Mrs. Higgins made? It's rare for her to cook today. If you don't come, Mrs. Higgins will be heartbroken. Don't you miss your m... miss me?"

Virginia opened her mouth but couldn't bring herself to say no.

Archer was busy with work. During their one year of marriage, the number of times he returned to the old estate could be counted on one hand. She probably wouldn't run into him this time.

Thinking of this, she agreed.
