As soon as we arrive at the hospital, I park the truck and help Clarice out. We make our way inside and head for a desk where a young woman that I assume is a receptionist is seated. When she notices us, her eyes are focused solely on me. I resist the urge to roll my own eyes at her ogling. “Can I help you,” she asks. What the hell is she blind? Clarice is standing right next to me. “Yes, I’m here for Trevor Banister,” she says. The woman finally turns toward Clarice.
“What is your relationship to the patient,” she asks. Clarice seems startled by the question. When she goes to open her mouth, I speak first. “She is his wife.” Her eyes snap to mine and I wink at her. “He’s with the doctor right now, but as soon as they’re done examining him, I’ll take you right back. Is this your brother or his brother? I’ll need both your names for the visitor stickers,” she asks,
batting her eyelashes at me. “Nope, he’s my boyfriend,” Clarice says, popping the p. I stifle the laugh that wants to escape me at the shock on the woman’s face.
“Oh, I’m sorry I just thought,” she starts to sputter. “I know what you thought, but he isn’t available,” Clarice says. I snake my arm around her waist and pull her close to my side. I press a kiss to her temple, loving that she is staking her claim. “Our names are Nick and Clarice if you want to write that down. We will take our seats and wait for you to call us.”
they want.
The woman nods and I lead Clarice to chairs that line the walls. “Can you believe her? What is with these thirsty women everywhere we go? I know you’re hot, but it’s so disrespectful,” she says, clearly irritated. “I’m glad you think I’m hot. Just remember they can be as th
at my words. The only woman that gets a taste is you,” I say low in her ear. I watch her bod She turns her head and presses a searing kiss on my lips. A few minutes later, the same woman calls
our name, and we follow her through a set of double doors.
When we reach the room, a young woman who doesn’t look old enough to be wearing a white coat that says she is a doctor steps into the hallway. “You’re here for Mr. Banister,” she asks. “Yes, I am his wife.” “I heard,” she says to Clarice. I see no judgment in her eyes when she looks between us. She reaches her hand out to Clarice first. “I’m Dr. Moore,” she says as she takes my hand. My eyes immediately widen. She pulls her hand back like I just burned her.
Clarice looks confused as she looks between us. The woman is a fae. I’m sure of it. That definitely explains why she looks so young. I felt the magic in her the moment our skin touched. I wonder what the hell she is doing here among humans. Fae usually stay to their own kind. She avoids my gaze and focuses her attention back on Clarice.
“Mrs. Banister, I’ve examined your husband. Based on what the paramedics said about the scene of the accident, he is very lucky that he wasn’t hurt much worse than he was. I’m waiting for an X–ray of his left leg, but I’d bet my paycheck that it’s broken. We are going to do a CT–scan to make

visit if you like. I’ll come back after I have the results of his studies. I’ll definitely be keeping him overnight since we know he hit his head,” she says.
“Thank you, Dr. Moore,” Clarice says. “You’re welcome. If you need to leave for any reason, just make sure the girl at the front has your updated number. Your husband told me he is pretty far from home, so we probably don’t have your information,” she says. “I’ll make sure they have it,” Clarice says. The woman never looks my way before she turns and rushes down the hallway. “What the hell was that about,” Clarice whispers.
“She is a fae.” “What is a fae” she asks. “She is a fairy. I could sense her magic when she shook my hand.” “You seemed shocked. I would think you are used to being around magical people,” Clarice says and I chuckle. “Fae usually live with their own kind. I’m just a little shocked she is working in a human hospital.” “Do you need to go talk to her? Find out why she is here. Are there rules that she can’t stay among humans,” Clarice asks and I smile.
“No, love, I just find it strange. Let’s just check on Trevor.” I press a kiss on her forehead before she turns to push open the door to the room. Trevor is sitting up straight with a huge smile on his face. “Clarice, Nick, you’re here. You came to see me,” he says. He sounds like he’s had a few beers. He opens his arms to Clarice but must remember and drops his arms at his sides. “Sorry, I forgot you hate me. I hate me too. I’m glad that we’re having a baby because, at least, I still have you in my life,” he says.

He starts to sob and Clarice looks at me before she looks back at him. “Trevor, it’s going to be alright. You’re right. I’m always going to be in your life. How are you feeling change the subject. “Good, the pretty doctor lady gave me some medicine he slaps his hand over his mouth. “I didn’t mean to say that she was pretty. I’m sorry” he says. Clarice giggles at his antics. She doesn’t seem bothered in the least. “The doctor was very pretty. I’m not mad you noticed,” she says.
“You are so good. Way too good for me,” he says and turns toward me. “You had better treat her better than I did. I was an id**t. Don’t be an id**t Nick. I wanted to hate you but I don’t. It’s not your fault I f**ked up. I’m glad she didn’t have to be alone after I hurt her. You seem like a good guy,” he says. “Trevor, why don’t you try to sleep. Let the medicine work,” Clarice says.
He reaches out and grips Clarice’s hand. “No, I need you to know that I’m going to be a better
father than I was a husband. I promise I’ll learn from what I’ve done, just like Santa said. I want our
daughter to be strong, just like you,” he says. I can see Clarice is trying not to laugh, especially when he mentions my father. “She will Trevor because we will teach her to know her worth. I know you’re sorry, Trevor. I have no doubt you’ll be a good father. You weren’t a bad husband, but you
made mistakes. Now we move forward,” Clarice says and pats his hand.
His eyes flutter closed and she looks toward me. I know she is worried I’m going to be upset she didn’t pull her hand away, but I’m not. I move closer and grip her shoulder. I lean down and press a

nine. “I love you Nick,” she says. I grab a chair and pull it next to hers. She slides her hand in mine while we wait for the doctor to come back. It’s strange. She is sitting here holding both our hands, but I don’t feel a twinge of jealousy. She’s right. He is going to be in our lives and a part of our family because I’m never letting her go.
Simone POV
Why the hell is a magical creature in the human hospital? I haven’t met one since I came to this town. I mean there is no way he knows who I am, even if he knows I’m a fairy. F**k, this is not what I expected my night to bring. First I step into the room and find the man that is destined to mine, only to find out he is already married. Then the nurse tells me that the woman, who is his wife, also has a boyfriend.
Those types of relationships are not uncommon among Fae, but seeing it be with your destined
beloved is a little hard to take. I slapped on my smile because I had no choice. Besides, the woman
is human, so she has no idea she is with my destined. Then the man she called her boyfriend was
another magical being. What are the f**king chances? I can’t tell what he is, so he must be
powerful. As soon as I finished telling her about Trevor’s injuries, I ran like a coward.
I needed to get away from both men. As soon as I step into the break room, I breathe a sigh of
relief. I have no idea if my father is still looking for me, but I refuse to be his puppet. It’s been a year, so hopefully this man has nothing to do with the Fae Kingdom. Before I could even have five seconds to breathe, nurse “Barbie” comes walking into the break room. I try not to make eye contact, praying she will get the message, but of course she doesn’t.
“Can you believe that plain b**ch with two hot men? I mean she is chunky. What the hell do either of them see in her,” she says. I don’t know why but her words anger me. “I thought she was very pretty. There is nothing wrong with being curvy. Besides, maybe she is a nice person.” “Yeah, that’s what guys want, personality. Well she is obviously a wh*re since she is with both of them. So she must be good at taking d**k. That’s the only thing that makes sense,” she says.
“Are you f**king kidding me? You did not just say that out loud. What the hell is wrong with you?” She looks stunned by my outburst. I stand and put my stethoscope back around my neck. “You know what I think. I think you are a petty, jealous b**ch who had better act professionally, or I’ll make sure your supervisor gets an ear full from me.” Before she can say another word, I make my way back toward the patients rooms‘. Goddess, I hope no other craziness happens tonight.
