81 What if I’m Not
Simone POV
As soon as we reach the Inn, Chrissy and Anya are waiting in the lobby. Chrissy squeals and rushes
toward me. She pulls me into a bone crushing hug. “Chrissy, you are squishing her,” Trevor says,
and I giggle. “I’m fine Trevor. I’m not a delicate flower.” “Are you really pregnant? I didn’t have a
single vision. I don’t think mom did either. This is so amazing. I haven’t been surprised like this in a
long time,” Chrissy says. She pulls back, and I look at Anya, my eyebrows raised. “No, I am just as
shocked and thrilled as Chrissy is,” she says.
Anya pulls me into her arms. “We were ecstatic when Clarice called us. I’m going to have two grandbabies to spoil. Chris is already getting a nursery ready big enough for three cribs just in case,” she says, smirking at Chrissy. Chrissy rolls her eyes. “I’ve waited far too many years to have my husband. I’m not ready to share him yet,” she says. When Anya looks back at me, concern flashes in her eyes. “What if I’m not pregnant? Maybe it really was the fish. We are all so excited
but what if I’m not,” I whisper.
“Maybe that’s why neither of you had a vision. Maybe we are getting excited for nothing.” “Hey, don’t do that. Just because we didn’t have a vision doesn’t mean you aren’t pregnant, Simone. Now let’s go see if you are going to give me another grandbaby or if you get to continue to have fun trying. No matter what, Simone, we love you and Trevor loves you,” she says. I fight back the tears that want to fall. She will never know how much she has made me feel whole by being the mother I never got to have. Trevor pulls me into his arms this time and presses a kiss on my lips.
Twenty minutes later, we appear outside the royal hospital. I thought about appearing in Jared’s office, but I learned my lesson after last time. No sister wants to see her brother’s hairy a** in the throes of passion with his beloved, I shudder at the thought. I will just tell him after we find out if I’m actually pregnant. We make our way inside the hospital and the young girl behind the desk looks shocked to see me. She hops up and rushes toward us.
“Princess, is everything alright?” I’m shocked she recognizes me. I don’t remember her. “Yes, I need to see the healer.” “Of course, are you injured,” she says, looking me up and down. “No, I’m not hurt. I’d prefer to discuss why I’m here with him if that’s OK.” “Of course it is. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to be intrusive. My father always tells me I talk too much, and I ask too many questions,” she says.
I smile, but before I can tell her it’s fine, she starts talking again. I hear a chuckle from behind me. “I’m just so grateful you were able to save the queen when my father couldn’t,” she says. “You are the healer’s daughter.” “I am. He told me how powerful you are. I am hoping that I have his gift. For now, I am just doing what I can to help anyone who is sick or injured,” she says. “What’s your name?” “Glinda,” she says.

“Well Glinda, it’s a pleasure to meet you. You need to remember that even if you never gain the
power to heal, you can still be a healer. I’ve been a doctor for many years and saved many lives
without a bit of magic. Healing is a calling.” “Thank you princess. Let me show you to an exam
room, and I’ll get my father,” she says.
“Thank you Glinda.” She rushes off after taking us to a large room. I turn to face my sisters,
mother, and Trevor. They are all smiling at me. I can see pride in their eyes, which has warmth spreading in my chest. Trevor pulls me into his arms and presses a kiss on my forehead. A few
seconds later, there is a knock on the exam room door and the healer steps inside. “Princess,
Glinda informed me that you wanted to see me. Is everything alright,” he asks.
?
“Gordon, I’ve been feeling sick to my stomach since I woke up this morning. I’ve even thrown up
a couple of times. Can you check to see if I’m pregnant?” His concern fades and a smile spreads
across his face. “Of course, princess,” he says. He quickly leaves the room. He returns just as
quickly with Glinda in toe. “Glinda will take your blood while I get the ultrasound machine. The test will only take a few minutes. If it’s positive, we can check on the little prince or princess,” he says.
Glinda quickly takes my blood and rushes from the room. I know, Gordon said it would be a few
minutes, but I swear it felt like it took forever. When Gordon steps into the room again, the smile on
his face has my heart ready to beat out of my chest. “Congratulations princess. You are pregnant,”
he says.
A few minutes later, I’m lying on the table with my hand in Trevor’s Clarice, Chrissy, and Anya stand
around the table each with their hand on me. Gordon starts to move the wand and the sound of
the heartbeat fills the room just like it did earlier at Clarice’s appointment. Tears spring to my eyes. Gordon doesn’t speak for a long time. The longer he is silent, the more anxious I become. “Gordon, what’s wrong?”
“I’m sorry princess I didn’t mean to scare you. There’s nothing wrong,” he says. He turns the screen
and points to what looks like a jelly bean. “This is baby A and this is baby B,” he says, pointing to a
second jelly bean. Did he just say baby A and B? “Congratulations princess, you are having twins,” he says. I open and close my mouth like a fish out of water. “I guess its a good thing dad is making
the nursery big enough for three,” Chrissy says.
Jared POV
1
“Have you spoken to her in the last few days,” my father asks. “I have dad.” “Is she still happy? Is her beloved treating her well,” he asks. “Dad, she is very happy. Trevor loves her,” I start to say, but the ringing of my phone interrupts. “King Jared,” I say. “Your majesty, I’m not sure why yet, but the princess is here at the hospital to see me. Glinda said she arrived with a man and three women. I assume it’s her beloved, but I’m not sure who else has accompanied her. Glinda assures me they
are not fae,” he says.

My heart starts to race. Why wouldn’t Simone let me know she is here? Why wouldn’t she come right to my office? Why would she be at the hospital? “I am on my way,” I say, before disconnecting the call. “Jared, what’s wrong? Is it Noreen? Is it the baby,” he asks, as he gets to his feet. “Noreen is fine, dad. In fact, Gordon said she was right on schedule when we met with him a few days ago. The baby is fine too.”
“Then what’s wrong Jared,” he asks. I debate about telling him that Mona is at the hospital, but I decide I can’t keep it from him. “Gordon called to tell me that Mona is at the hospital to see him.”
Fear flashes in his eyes and he turns toward the door. “Dad, wait. We don’t know why she is even
there.”
?
He turns toward me, his eyes meeting mine. “My baby girl is at the hospital. A place you go when
your hurt. She has been hurt enough. I’m going to find out what happened to her,” he says. He takes
three steps before he disappears. I teleport to the hospital lobby just in time to see my father
staring down Gordon’s daughter.
“Where is my daughter? What happened to her,” he asks. “I’m sorry, your majesty, but I have to talk
to her before I give you any information. I will not violate the princess’s privacy,” she says. “You will
tell me where my daughter is and what is wrong with her right now,” he says.
To Glinda’s credit, she doesn’t cower. In fact, she straightens her spine. “Dad, you cannot bully the
girl to submit to your will. She is protecting Mona.” His shoulders sag. “I just want to make sure
she is alright,” he says. “My king, I can take you to her room, but she will need to be the one to tell you why she came here today,” Glinda says. “Thank you” he says. We follow Glinda down the
hallway.
She knocks twice on the large door. Gordon opens the door with a huge smile on his face. “Your majesty,” he says and steps aside. I follow my dad inside and freeze when I see Mona lying on the table. Her eyes meet mine and tears roll down her cheeks. I push past my father and move to the side of the exam table. “Mona, what’s going on?” “I had planned to come to your office as soon as I was cleaned up, but clearly someone called you before I could,” she says, glaring at Gordon.
He has the good sense to look remorseful. “What’s wrong, Mona?” “Nothing is wrong Jared. Everything is perfect. I’m just pregnant. You’re going to be an uncle,” she says. It’s my turn for tears. My baby sister is going to have a baby. “You are pregnant,” my father whispers from behind me. I think both Mona and I forgot he was there. She looks at me and I can see the apprehension,
but I see something else too, hope.
“Jared, after I get cleaned up and get the pictures of the babies, I’d like to use your office to talk to dad,” she says. “Babies. Did you say babies as in more than one?” “I did. We are having twins,” she says. I bend down and pull her in for a hug. “I’m so happy for you, Mona. I can’t wait to be an uncle. Noreen is going to be thrilled to be an aunt. Our kids will grow up together. You can

absolutely use my office. Do you want me to be with you?” “No, I need to do this on my own,” she
says. I press a kiss on her forehead. I hope after today that both my sister and father can start to heal from the pain of the past.
