Chapter 227: Annoyed

JASMINE’S POV

Keith was annoying me even more in this moment. I could feel his gaze on me as we worked.

I was already feeling irritable from visiting the Acland estate. Seeing that mansion again unlocked so many painful memories of my past life with Keith.

Tony’s toy giraffe, which was on the couch beside me, was the only thing keeping me calm enough to at least go through the documents.

"Let me ask you one thing, though," I then spoke up.

Keith looked up from his work.

"What does your father think of the fact that you’re keeping me? Does he know you have a conservatorship over me?" I asked curiously.

There was a pause as we stared at each other.

"I told him we’re working through things as we find Tony," he told me with a straight face.

Keith’s father was just as bad as Keith in how he viewed women as disposable. He probably didn’t care what Keith did.

We then went to have lunch at noon, and when we returned to the office, one of Keith’s bodyguards entered the office and handed Keith a pile of folders. They were the current suspects list we had made.

Keith was having his bodyguards obtain information rather than company employees due to uncertainty with his employees. So he was sure the information he requested was tampered with, he made his bodyguards he trusted do it.

Keith talked to the bodyguard briefly before he stood up and came to me.

"These are the files on all the employees who worked on the finance documents," he said, handing me the folders. "Basically, the entire finance department, former and current employees, as well as Edward, my assistant. I have men watching them now as well."

My eyes narrowed as I looked at them; one or more of them must be the culprit. I looked at all the names I had written down in my notes, and I could finally gain context. Finally, we had some suspects

The only advantage of being with Keith thus far. But we were yet to find any inconsistencies in the financial records.

As I continued working, I couldn’t stop thinking about meeting with Keith’s father, and it reminded me to recall the relationship they had and what Keith had told me early in our marriage.

As I worked, a thought came to mind, and I continued to consider it.

I took some more files back to the estate so I could continue working the same as yesterday.

"I see where you’re coming from. How would he get access to the HQ’s document? He works in a subsidiary company; he’s based in another city. We don’t have a close relationship," he told me.

"All I’m saying is it doesn’t hurt to check out all the possibilities. We barely know anything about the culprit because of how well they cover their tracks," I told him. Adding Kolton to the list of possible suspects doesn’t mean we’re blaming him."

"That’s fine, we also don’t want to make baseless accusations and frame innocent people," he told me. ’I will get a folder done on him, and we can go through it." He told me.

"Good," I said. I don’t think that Keith is necessarily trying to protect Kolton, more so, he wants to avoid creating drama in the family in case he is wrong.

Keith finished his food first and got up from his seat at the table. "Try not to stay up too late working," he then said to me.

"You looked tired today and yesterday. Remember, it’s important to rest and give yourself energy so you can work properly," he told me.

"Okay, Dad. Whatever you say," I mocked him.

He let out a sigh. "If this continues, I’ll have to change this arrangement of you taking files home to work through them."

I glared as I watched him leave the dining room, then I continued eating. It was still difficult to eat, but I had to do it.
