Chapter 235: Gaslighting mother

JASMINE POV

I woke up with a start. Like a gust of wind had blown past me. I looked in the direction of the doors to my room and heard footsteps slowly walking away. I was sure I had sensed someone in my room and hovering above me.

Did I imagine that I wondered. Was it Keith?

The idea of him coming into my room without my knowing, and especially when I was asleep, was unsettling and sent shivers down my spine.

I got up and out of bed. I looked at all the paperwork I had been going through that was on the bedside table.

I was feeling tired and spent. I had been staying up for several nights now.

I recalled that Keith had gone to the bank to receive information on the bank account that was tampered with by Diana and her sponsor. I was glad they finally caught the culprit. Hopefully, we were a step closer to finding out who was helping Diana. Because it certainly wasn’t her who had changed the statements, so hopefully the sponsor would come to light.

I got back to looking through the documents, and after about half an hour, Nurse Anne came into the room with my meal and to help me take my medicine.

In the last week, I had felt my breathing slowly improve. Even the swelling in my leg was slowly healing. I predicted that in another week I’d be able to walk properly. Which would help when I escaped.

After working in my room for most of the morning, after lunch, I decided to go outside and take a walk around the gardens.

My mind was on Tony, Louis, and my long-term plan to escape Keith. I still hadn’t quite figured it out.

"Jasmine, how are you?" I heard a familiar female voice a short distance away from me. Brought out of my thoughts I turned around and found an elderly woman approaching me from where I was in the garden. She had greying strawberry blonde hair that was well styled. After a moment, I recognised it was Keith’s mother.

Keith’s mother entered the shed and drew closer to me. I looked in the corner and saw Keith watching from a distance like a creep. My eyes narrowed as I wondered what this was about.

I made stand up from my chair to hug her back. "Oh no darling, I know you’re injured please sit,"she told me.

"Ms..." I contemplated how I should address her. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

"You can call me Lauren as you always have," she told me. She always had me call her Lauren when I was together with Keith.

"Lauren," I said accepting her request. Unlike, Keith’s father who was a bit difficult to talk

Lauren was friendlier to me and often had pleasant small talk .

My eyes averted back to Keith who stared for another movement before turning away and leaving. He wasn’t coming and joining his mother, why is that?
