Opening my eyes I found I was still standing and above me were two muscular arms. One arm was covering my head and the other was close to my head holding onto the bookshelf. The warmth I’d suddenly felt was Louis coming up behind me and covering me with his body. He’d protected me from falling down and from the folders falling on me.
My heart began pounding in my chest upon this realization. How had he reached me so quickly I wondered?
"Jasmine are you alright?" Louis asked me his gentle voice laced with concern. His breath tickled my neck as he spoke sending shivers down my spine.
"Yes," I replied in a small voice.
"You have to be careful," he said to me.
"I’m sorry," I apologized to him as I felt myself turning red from how close he was standing behind me. I could feel his body pressed into mine.
He then backed away from me. I slowly turned around and looked up at him feeling embarrassed. He wore the shirt and trousers I’d seen him dressed in earlier in the morning but he’d removed the blazer and tie. He’d also undone some of the buttons and folded up his sleeves. I could see a bit of his muscular chest and part of a tattoo on his left arm.
His golden eyes met mine. "Thank you, Louis," I expressed my gratitude for him saving me.
He then lowered himself and picked up the dropped files.
"Here you go," he said as he handed them to me.
"Thank you," I replied awkwardly as I took them from him. My answers seemed more robotic now for some reason.
"By the way these are just copy summaries of the reports done at the office, I bring them here as backup for the official documents kept there. If you need more you can let me know and I can bring it for you." he offered.
"Thank you," I replied.
After chatting to Louis I left his office and went to my bedroom with the files feeling a little flustered for some reason.
KEITH’S POV
Reading through the divorce papers I had received from Jasmine I was at a complete loss for words.
"But why?" I asked as looked at Edward who had handed them to me.
"I mean sir, weren’t you planning on divorcing her anyway? This is what you wanted in the end," Edward asked me.
I glared at him in annoyance. Yes, I was going to divorce her but I never imagined she would be the one to divorce me first.
"Perhaps another hour and I’ll be done," I said to her.
She came and sat me in my chair. She drew closer to me and kissed me.
When she pulled away I placed my hand on her cheek and caressed it for a moment.
I looked at her bruised eye which was covered in an eye patch bandage. It was really bad. You wouldn’t lie to me would you Diana? We have such a long history together. I trusted the life and relationship we’d built. You were my first girlfriend I have so many fond memories of us together, it’s why my heart remained with you even after I married Jasmine.
Jasmine’s words to me that day were still stuck in my mind. ’It’s because of you that Diana does what she wants!’ she’d yelled at me. What did she mean by it’s my fault? I couldn’t understand it.
I hated the fact that I was starting to keep things from Diana. I hoped to figure this all out soon. As I held Diana in my arms and caressed her I just hoped I wasn’t wrong.
*************
On Monday I planned to see Jasmine in the evening. I had told Diana that I would be working late.
At around 8:30 in the evening I arrived at her home. Immediately I noticed the lights to get home were off. I already had a bad feeling about this. There was no way she would have known I was coming and left in time.
