My clothes were tight. My skin burned and itched. My senses locked onto the omegas as they retreated down the hall, their bodies trembling more than before.

I knew what was happening, and I couldn’t stop it.

The shift was coming too slowly, dragging itself out, as if my wolf was fighting something. Or hiding from the magic pressing into me. She was hesitating. Could she even fight through this many people, or had I really just doomed us all the moment I came here?

“Stay back,” the mouthy omega said.

We were all omegas. Why the hell was she scared of me? She’d been bold enough to jab a needle into my arm, now she cowered in a corner like I’d grown two heads. Their heartbeats thundered in my ears.

I yanked the needle out and tossed it aside before ripping the hoodie over my head. Another minute and it would have choked me.

“Just tell me what’s going on? I don’t have time to deal with you,” I growled.

My voice was deeper. Rougher. My wolf was very close to the surface, and the pull towards Hunter was overwhelming. If I didn’t get answers now, my wolf would take off to find him the second she could.

“The mating ceremony has been rearranged,” the mouthy omega said quickly. “Prince Lordswood will come for you soon. We’re just doing what we were commanded.”

She was right. None of this was their fault.

That didn’t stop the fury from spiralling inside me, growing and feeding on itself until it felt like a tornado tearing through my chest. I tried to calm it, tried to breathe.

The moon. I could feel it tugging at me, pulling my thoughts apart. Everything inside me felt fractured and stretched too thin.

“There will be no mating ceremony,” I snarled.

“If we don’t do what he told us to…”

The omegas inched closer, even as their fear thickened in the air. I inhaled, and my eyes fluttered closed when that fear hit me. Why did it smell so good?

“We have to dress you, Princess Katerina,” the mouthy omega whispered.

My eyes snapped open and pinned on her. Her body moved even though I felt her resistance. It was a command. I knew the sensation too well. The helplessness. The violation. But still, the tornado inside surged to category five.

My jeans cut into my thighs. I popped the button, ignoring how thick and sharp my claws were as I shoved them down and kicked them away. They scraped my skin, and my blood scented the air.

And somehow, that smelled better than the omegas’ fear.

I inhaled greedily before fixing my gaze on the mouthy omega again.

She looked smaller. Significantly smaller. Werewolves didn’t partially shift, and omegas were always the smallest. But the magic pressing into me grew heavier as my instincts sharpened. Was it messing with my head? Warping my perception? I shoved that thought aside and faced the advancing wolves.

“You will not dress me,” I growled. “Stop.”

The omegas froze. Just stopped mid-stride. The word rippled around the room, vibrating in my bones. The fear in their eyes turned into something else as their trembling bodies tensed.

And then their heads lowered, not because I was their princess, but because of me. My wolf.

Submission.

I staggered back into the door, staring at them. Six women, and every single one held in place by my voice alone. Confusion crashed into me, and then astonishment. It tangled dangerously close to exhilaration. Yet beneath it all was revulsion. I hated this. Hated that somehow I had made them act against their will. Hated that I’d done the very thing I despised most about being an omega.

How was this even possible?

The mouthy omega’s words echoed back in my head. ‘What are you?’

My breath caught as I rushed into my dressing room. And there, in the full-length mirror, I stared at the half- naked body of a woman I barely recognised.

The T-shirt strained at the seams, the neckline choking me. My claws gleamed at my sides, sharper than they’d ever been. My eyes glowed violet, but there was something else there. A spark. A depth. Something no omega possessed.

And was I bigger?

Shock punched through me, and I stumbled back. What the hell was happening to me?

A loud knock snapped me back to reality, and fear flooded through me. I wasn’t fully shifted; what could I do like this? Would they kill me themselves before their prophecy came to pass? Or tie me up for Hunter? I’d become the very thing he’d told me I was. His weakness in their hands.

I rushed back to the hall, but stopped in my tracks at the scene I’d left behind. The omegas stood exactly where I’d left them, still frozen, but the whimpers were louder. And the fear-their intoxicating fear-was thicker.

My fear faded as I breathed it in, allowing their emotions to fill my lungs.

Goddess. What was this? As insane as it sounded, I wanted to consume it. Sink into it. Bathe in it.

The knock came louder this time, dragging my attention back. I felt scattered, pulled in too many directions at once. Yet every emotion I was pulled into was extreme.

I glanced at the windows and realised the sun was gone. It was officially the last night before the full moon.

“Cassandra, open the door.”

My head snapped back to the door and the loud banging.

“Think, Katerina,” I whispered.

I hadn’t come here to lose control. Hunter still needed me.

“Cassandra!”

The mouthy omega. That had to be her name. Sweat had beaded on her forehead, and she shook more violently than the rest, her eyes locked on the door behind me.

“Stay here where it’s safe,” I growled as I ripped the T-shirt off. It had become useless anyway. “You don’t have to obey them.”

Their shoulders sagged. Relief rolled through the room as the omegas collapsed together. They weren’t advancing on me anymore. Had I really somehow overridden the command placed on them? I’d done that myself before, when I broke my father’s chains on me, but this was different. It shouldn’t have been possible.

Something slammed into the door.

And then again.
