This time, it was Adriel riding the motorcycle with Wynette behind him as they tore through the night.
Adriel wasn't driving very fast.
Sitting behind him, Wynette poked his shoulder unhappily. "Adriel, why are you driving like a grandma? Twist the throttle harder..."
If circumstances allowed it, Wynette would've dragged the man off the bike and taken over herself.
The moment she finished speaking, Adriel accelerated instantly, and the motorcycle shot forward like an arrow released from a bow.
Wynette slammed straight into Adriel's back.
Her arms instinctively wrapped tightly around his waist.
That impact hurt her nose badly enough that tears almost sprang to her eyes.
Thank God her nose was natural. Otherwise, that hit probably would've knocked an implant crooked.
With her nose still aching slightly, Wynette buried her face against Adriel's back. She rubbed it a few times against him while holding onto him tightly.
The moment Wynette wrapped her arms around him, Adriel's body stiffened slightly.
When he felt her rubbing against his back afterward, his entire body became even tenser.
Meanwhile, Wynette remained completely oblivious to his reaction.
All she knew was that every part of him she touched felt ridiculously firm.
Without thinking, her hand even pressed absently against his abs twice.
Only afterward did Wynette suddenly realize her actions were a little inappropriate, and she awkwardly pulled her hand back.
Looking at the back of Adriel's head, Wynette thought about how he'd joined her in beating up Noah earlier and couldn't stop herself from laughing.
Then she spread her arms wide and let out a cheerful shout into the wind.
The instant Wynette released him, Adriel immediately slowed the motorcycle down.
"Where to?" Adriel asked in a low voice. "Home?"
Wynette smacked the back of his head lightly. "Nope. I finally took my bike out tonight, so obviously I'm not heading back until my baby gets enough time on the road."
Hearing her words, Adriel simply chuckled softly.
Then he continued racing through the night with Wynette.
Eventually, he drove all the way out to the beach, far from the city center.
After getting off the motorcycle, Wynette carried over a plastic bag filled with beer and snacks.
The two of them had stopped at a 24-hour convenience store along the way to buy them.
After parking the motorcycle properly, Adriel turned around to find Wynette already sitting on the roadside guardrail.
Beyond them stretched a wide sandy beach and an endless dark ocean.
The sound of waves crashing against the rocks echoed in their ears.
Adriel sat down beside Wynette.
Wynette cracked open a can of beer and handed it to him.
After Adriel accepted it, she opened one for herself and tipped her head back for a drink.
The sea breeze was strong, blowing her hair into a mess.
Adriel removed his jacket and draped it over Wynette's shoulders. "The wind's cold."
Wynette instinctively wanted to take it off.
If he gives me his jacket, what about him? Won't he be cold?
Sensing her intention to return it, Adriel spoke firmly. "Wear it."
Looks like we still went too easy on Noah earlier.
"Even when he dated me back then, it was all for the shares. The Shepherds had it all planned out from the beginning."
As she spoke, Wynette turned toward Adriel. "Do you know why Justin would rather interfere with Jewell Group in such a despicable way instead of directly swallowing it whole?
"The moment Shepherd Group officially absorbed Jewell Group, Mr. Adam would definitely find out. Justin has been using Jewell Group to secretly handle a lot of dirty business behind the scenes. If anything ever blew up, he'd push Jewell Group out as the scapegoat and walk away clean."
Fortunately, Justin's plans never succeeded because Wynette had secretly sabotaged Liam multiple times behind the scenes.
Before Justin could make his move, she'd already quietly cleaned up every problem.
Adriel listened silently, occasionally glancing at Wynette as she drank and vented her frustration.
Wynette continued, "The Shepherds treated me like an idiot. As long as I married Noah, they'd get Jewell Group practically for free. Think about it. After marriage, he'd sweet-talk me into transferring ownership of Jewell Group and turn it into a subsidiary of Shepherd Group.
"That way, they'd still have an explanation for Mr. Adam because technically, everything would've been voluntary on my end. And then there were the shares Mr. Adam planned to give me. Once we got married, those would've become marital property too. As long as Noah kept me happy, wouldn't I eventually hand over everything willingly anyway?"
Wynette understood the Shepherds' schemes better than anyone.
Adriel frowned slightly, his voice low. "When did you figure all this out?"
Even Adriel hadn't expected Wynette to know this much.
The Shepherds themselves probably never realized she'd already seen through everything.
Turning her head, Wynette met his gaze directly. "I'm not stupid. Noah would act warm one second and distant the next. He thought that keeping me emotionally off balance meant he could control me.
"He treated me like some kind of pet. That guy used every professional manipulation tactic in the book to mentally gaslight me."
Honestly, when she and Noah first started dating, Wynette could already feel him trying to manipulate her psychologically.
At this point, she really had to give Joanne some credit.
Somehow, Joanne had found a book called "Reject Emotional Manipulation: Stop Toxic Relationships and Protect Your Mental Health" and kept forcing Wynette to read it whenever she had free time.
And not just Wynette either. By the end, even Joanne herself had gotten completely hooked on reading it.
