I Choose Him, Your Worst Enemy novel Chapter 191

They had dinner in the hotel room.

Adriel ordered room service to be delivered upstairs.

Not long after they finished eating, lightning and thunder suddenly erupted outside the window.

At that moment, Wynette was sitting on the couch, leaning her head against Adriel's shoulder while scrolling through her phone.

Suddenly, a bolt of lightning struck, followed by a deafening crash of thunder.

With a loud boom, the entire room fell into darkness.

Another flash of lightning immediately split across the sky.

Wynette nearly jumped in fright.

She sharply noticed Adriel's body tense up.

As another streak of lightning flashed outside, Wynette turned to look at him.

Maybe it was just her imagination, but under the brief light from the lightning, she thought Adriel's expression looked wrong.

His lips were tightly pressed together, his face tense, and his complexion slightly pale.

With the flashes of lightning and thunder, certain memories surfaced in Adriel's mind.

"Adriel, I'm scared," Wynette cried out softly as she threw herself into his arms.

She deliberately trembled as she buried herself against him, wrapping both arms and legs around him like an octopus.

Wynette pressed her face tightly against his chest. "It's so scary. I'm really scared."

Almost instinctively, Adriel immediately wrapped his arms around her protectively.

Feeling the soft warmth in his arms, the disturbing memories in Adriel's mind were instantly pushed away by Wynette throwing herself at him.

He gently patted her back and comforted her softly. "Don't be afraid. It was probably the lightning that caused the hotel blackout. They usually have backup power, so the electricity should come back soon. I'm here. Don't be scared."

The tension in Adriel's nerves slowly eased.

The moment the lightning flashed and the room went dark, his emotions had tightened to the extreme.

Deep down, Adriel strongly resisted stormy weather.

He hated weather like this. Every time it happened, it reminded him of painful memories.

Whenever there was extreme weather like this, he'd often be haunted by nightmares, and the lights in his home always had to stay on through the night.

If Wynette hadn't cried out and pulled him back from those nightmare-like emotions just now, Adriel felt he might have completely lost control in front of her.

When Adriel was very young, he had once been locked inside a cramped attic by Dominic during weather exactly like this.

Back then, lightning had flashed repeatedly while thunder roared endlessly in his ears.

No matter how hard the young Adriel cried and screamed, the only things accompanying him that night had been lightning and thunder.

That very night, he developed a high fever.

After that, whenever he encountered this kind of extreme weather, he would struggle to breathe, his body would turn cold, and he would shake uncontrollably.

As Wynette held him, she could clearly feel the changes in his body.

He was so cold.

And there was also something different about him.

She couldn't quite describe the feeling.

It was as though he was desperately trying to suppress his fear.

Thinking that, Wynette tightened her hold on him and softened her voice. "But I'm still scared, Adriel. Hold me tighter. Don't leave me."

She leaned close to his ear and whispered her plea softly.

To Adriel, her voice miraculously soothed the fear rising inside him.

For the first time during weather like this, Adriel didn't lose control.

He didn't sink into that helpless drowning sensation of despair.

"I'm here. Don't be afraid." Adriel tilted his head and kissed Wynette lightly on the cheek.

With one arm, he lifted her into his embrace.

Wynette wrapped her arms around his neck and hooked her legs around his waist, clinging to him like a pendant.

Adriel carried her into the bedroom and found the room phone on the nightstand before calling the front desk.

The hotel informed him that they were urgently working on the power outage.

It would probably take another half hour before the backup generators could restore electricity to the entire hotel.
