I Choose Him, Your Worst Enemy novel Chapter 193

Right before the end of the workday, Wynette went down to the Design Department.

After confirming every exhibition piece was in good shape, she quietly let out a breath.

Just as Wynette was getting ready to head home, Shirley told her that a Mr. Bradford was downstairs asking to see her.

Since he didn't have an appointment, the front desk had called Shirley first.

Wynette immediately thought of Eli Bradford.

She frowned. "No. Tell them to send him away."

Wynette had zero intention of seeing Eli.

She knew exactly why he had come looking for her, and it was obviously because of Joanne.

She wanted no part of whatever was going on between those two.

No matter what, she was on Joanne's side. No question.

To avoid any extra drama, Wynette decided to leave work early.

Perfect timing, too. She had been planning to go shopping at the mall and pick out a gift for Adriel.

Wynette had actually wanted to buy Adriel a gift for a while.

But too much had happened lately, and it had gotten pushed aside.

Wynette had assumed that once the front desk turned Eli away, even if he refused to leave, he'd only wait in the lobby.

So, the second she saw him in the parking garage, her face went cold.

"Wynette." Eli straightened his posture as soon as he saw her.

He had only come to try his luck; after all, he had been rejected at the front desk.

It had been quite a long time since Wynette had seen him—not since he and Joanne broke up.

Compared to before, Eli had lost a lot of weight.

His eyes flickered with a hint of unease, as if he didn't know how to face Wynette's scrutiny.

Wynette slowly looked away and said flatly, "I've nothing to say to you."

As for why Eli had come looking for her, Wynette couldn't have cared less.

Eli looked embarrassed. He stared at Wynette and said, "I've called Joanne countless times. She never picked up, then blocked me. I had no choice but to come to you."

"You and Joanne already broke up." Wynette cut him off. "An ex should stay in the past. Aren't you about to get married? Why are you still looking for her? Eli, do you think the knife you stuck in Joanne wasn't deep enough?"

When it came to their breakup, there was no way Wynette didn't resent Eli.

She had seen with her own eyes how much Joanne had suffered.

Joanne had been a wealthy heiress brave enough to fight for love, but somehow, everything had gone wrong with Eli.

He was the one who let go first.

He had already decided to give up back then. So why was he coming after Joanne again now?

Eli lowered his eyes. Wynette couldn't read his expression.

Not that she wanted to.

Wynette said coldly, "You were the one who let go first. If you're a man, be decisive. Don't come back to pester Joanne. She can only be happy without you."

After the breakup, Eli had come back several times, trying to get back together with Joanne.

Every time, he claimed he'd only given Joanne up because of his mother.

And Joanne, foolishly enough, had stayed right where she was—letting him break up when he wanted and make up when he wanted.

Sometimes it made Wynette's blood boil.

But she had no standing to lecture Joanne.

As Joanne had said, only the people in a relationship know how it really feels; she wanted to see exactly when she would lose hope for good.

Once her disappointment ran deep enough, she would never look back.

And this time, Joanne was truly done playing Eli's on-again, off-again game.

She had decided to listen to her friends. Once she got herself back together, she would clear her mind and accept the blind dates her family arranged.
