Day after day passed.
Before long, it was the day of the fashion show.
Wynette had gotten up especially early and headed for the venue.
She had hosted Callie the night before and drunk a little too much. Now, a dull ache throbbed at her temples.
For some reason, the moment she woke up that morning, her heart had started pounding fast.
She just couldn't shake the feeling that something was off.
And it turned out that uneasy feeling had been a warning.
She had deliberately left early, but even so, she got stuck halfway there first thing in the morning.
Luckily, Alice had already arrived at the venue.
Wynette was trapped on the overpass, and to make things worse, someone rear-ended her.
Right then, she was on the phone with the insurance company, trying to get the claim process started.
Looking at the crumpled bumper, she could only sigh in frustration.
After forcing herself to calm down, Wynette finally handled the rear-end collision and called Shirley, asking her to send someone from the auto shop over.
She flagged down a taxi and rushed to the venue herself.
With Alice personally overseeing things at the show, nothing had gone wrong.
Wynette made a quick round backstage, then headed to the seating area.
Callie, dressed in a burgundy sheath dress, slowly walked up to Wynette. "Wynette."
"Ms. Robinson." Wynette smiled. "Let me take you to your seat."
She had reserved the best seat in the house for Callie.
After getting Callie settled, Wynette sat with her for a while.
Not long after that, Kaylee and Ryker showed up too.
After this stretch of treatment, Ryker had improved a lot.
He could already walk slowly with a cane, but for an occasion like this, he still chose to sit in a wheelchair and had Kaylee push him into the venue.
Wynette greeted Callie, then walked over to her parents.
She took over the wheelchair and brought Ryker and Kaylee to the seats beside Callie.
"Dad, Mom, this is Ms. Robinson. She was the one who gave up the materials when we were short and helped us out," Wynette said, introducing Callie.
Ryker and Kaylee immediately greeted Callie.
Callie nodded. "Mr. Jewell. Mrs. Jewell."
Since she still had other guests to greet, Wynette greeted everyone briefly before getting up to leave.
Callie glanced at Kaylee and struck up a conversation. "Mrs. Jewell, you are truly blessed to have such a thoughtful and capable daughter. It's quite enviable."
Kaylee's gaze followed Callie's toward Wynette.
Her eyes were full of pride. "Yes, my Wynette is indeed excellent. Before, I always felt that as a girl, she couldn't support a group on her own, so I forced her to do many things she disliked. I owe that child a lot."
"Oh?" Callie asked, clearly interested. "There's a story there? But from what I can see, Wynette really is incredible. I just feel drawn to her. I like her so much."
She made no attempt to hide how fond she was of Wynette.
A little embarrassed, Kaylee said that was all in the past, and now she knew she had been wrong. From here on out, everything would be Wynette's choice.
Callie took a sip of warm water and asked again, "I asked Ms. Jewell before whether she'd always grown up in Scenaville, and she said she'd never left. Mrs. Jewell, did you ever take Wynette anywhere when she was little?
"I really love Wynette too much. I feel a sense of familiarity, as if I've seen her somewhere before."
Kaylee looked a little surprised when she heard that. "Oh, no, not really. Wynette really has stayed in Scenaville the whole time."

Was he really just overthinking this?
