Chapter 33 No More Second Chances
When Noah rushed to the hospital, Wynette was the only one in the room.
Adriel had something to deal with, so he had just missed Noah. The two didn’t run into each other.
Wynette was leaning against the bed, scrolling through drama on her phone.
A few funny scenes made her smile.
At the door, Noah saw that smile and stopped without thinking. He stood there and watched her.
It had been a long time since he had seen her smile like that–bright and real.
For a moment, he just stared, a little lost.
Then Wynette seemed to feel something. She looked up.
The moment she saw Noah at the door, her smile froze.
Noah?
Why is he here?
Her face turned blank as she watched him walk in. She frowned slightly. “Why are you here?”
She immediately thought of the calls he had made earlier.

Hearing the coldness in her voice, Noah felt a tight knot in his chest. “I came to see you. You had an allergic reaction; why didn’t you tell me?”
Before coming, Noah had asked his assistant to send him Wynette’s medical report.
When he saw it, his heart dropped. She had gone into severe shock from the allergy. She had fainted and rushed to the hospital. If she had arrived even five minutes later, her life could have been in danger.
The thought made him feel sick.
It was his fault. He pushed her to drink the wine. Worst of all, he had forgotten she was allergic to grapes.
Guilt wrapped around him, tight and hard to shake.
Wynette was a little surprised. She didn’t expect him to come.
Hearing his concern made it feel even more unreal.
Still, she stayed calm and answered lightly, “They got me here in time. I’m not dying anytime soon.”
Her careless tone made Noah’s chest ache.
In the past, she would have leaned on him. She would have made a scene and asked him to stay with her.
When had that changed?

When did she stop texting him, calling him, and sharing anything at all? When did she stop needing him?
Noah wasn’t used to this version of her.
He frowned and asked, “I’m glad you’re fine. Are you still mad at me? Can you talk nicely? Stop being sarcastic.”
In Noah’s eyes, Wynette was still just mad at him.
The way she spoke earlier–sharp and sarcastic–only proved it to him. It meant she still cared.
At least, she still got angry. Still got jealous, just like before.
As long as she cared, Noah believed he still had a chance. He could win her back. Get her to come back to
him.
Thinking that, he finally relaxed.
Wynette rolled her eyes at his lecture. “Sarcastic? Noah, I was telling the truth. I’m not mad at you. If you don’t like hearing it, then leave. The door’s right there. Take a left on your way out.”
She didn’t hold back at all.
Noah’s face darkened. The urge to argue almost slipped out, but he swallowed it. He thought about all the fights they’d had lately. It left a bad taste in his mouth.
Besides, he didn’t come here to argue.
He came because he remembered her allergy. He came to check on her.
Noah sat down in the chair without asking.
“I came to see you. Why should I leave? And you–why are you so stubborn? You’re sick and end up in the hospital, and you didn’t even call me. I could’ve stayed with you.”
There was a hint of complaint in his voice.
Sometimes, he really hated how she always tried to handle everything on her own.

So now, whenever something happened, she simply left him out of it.
Even if the call went through, this man was keeping another woman company; he wouldn’t come to her.
Noah looked away, awkward.
He reached for an apple and a knife on the table, clearing his throat. “I’ll peel you an apple.”
Without waiting for her reply, he lowered his head and started peeling.
Wynette watched him sit by the bed in silence. She didn’t feel touched at all.
As he peeled, Noah suddenly looked up. “By the way, why did you change the condo password? And you even removed my fingerprint. Does that make you feel better?”
Wynette felt a wave of helplessness.
She wanted to say she wasn’t angry at all.
But seeing how full of himself he looked, she felt annoyed instead.
She thought about explaining but knew he wouldn’t believe her anyway.
She let out a cold snort. “If I remember right, that house is mine. Do I need your permission to change the password? Noah, forget the fingerprint. Even if I sold the place, there’s nothing you could do about it.”
She didn’t tell him that she had already sold it.
The reason was simple. Since Noah was convinced that she was just angry, saying it out loud would only lead to another fight.
