Chapter 65 Who Will Believe That?
“Wynette.” Kaylee called her name again.
Her eyes were filled with urgency. “Are you really not going to reconsider Noah?”
Seeing the conversation circle back again, Wynette didn’t respond.
Finished
Kaylee still wanted to persuade her, but Wynette spoke first, “I understand your desire to protect the Jewell Group. Mom, I know exactly why you’re so stubborn. If you made a mistake, just correct it in time. No one is going to blame you.”
She added softly, “Dad won’t, and I have even less right to.”
Before today, she truly couldn’t understand why her mother would sacrifice her own happiness so extremely just to protect the Jewell Group.
At one point, she even wondered if she was really Kaylee’s biological daughter.
Otherwise, how could a mother force her own daughter to swallow it all and just put up with it?
If Wynette hadn’t gone to see Ryker today, she never would’ve known the truth.
It turned out Ryker hadn’t made the wrong call because he misjudged the situation.
It was because Kaylee had been betrayed by her closest friend.
That friend tricked Kaylee into revealing the project’s bidding floor price, then sold it to a rival company for a hefty payout and left Scenaville.
At first, Kaylee didn’t realize she had been the one who had invited disaster into their home, causing the crisis in the Jewells.
Her so–called best friend had even taken photos of the entire project proposal.
Kaylee had been drowning in guilt ever since, especially after the Jewells nearly went bankrupt and Ryker became paralyzed. It hit her like a final blow.
Over the past three years, Kaylee’s personality had become increasingly extreme. She became convinced that only by protecting the Jewell Group could she make up for that mistake.
She spiraled into a cycle of self–blame and collapse.
Without Wynette even knowing, Kaylee had tried to take her own life several times, only to be rescued each time.
Ryker only told her all of that because he didn’t want Wynette to feel disappointed in Kaylee.
Sometimes, Kaylee couldn’t control what she did.
That was also why Ryker refused to return home and insisted on staying in the treatment center.

Chapter 65 Who Will Believe That?
Kaylee couldn’t face him, and her heart was in constant torment.
He needed a quiet environment to recover, and she needed space to stabilize her condition.
As for the leaked project, Wynette truly felt she had no right to blame her mother.
In business, there were wins and losses.
Finished
Kaylee didn’t want that outcome either. She couldn’t get past it, and Wynette could understand that. What she couldn’t accept was her mother repeatedly pressuring her just to preserve the Jewell Group. Now that she had completely cut ties with the Shepherds, Wynette had no intention of turning back. Kaylee stared at Wynette in shock. “Your dad told you that?”
Then, she swayed slightly, her face pale, unable to meet Wynette’s eyes.
Seeing that, Wynette stood up and walked over, sitting beside her. She took Kaylee’s hand. “Mom, Dad said he misses you. He wants you to go to the treatment center and stay with him. Do you want to go?”
After learning Wynette had decided to break up with Noah, Ryker had asked for Kaylee to come keep him company.
The only thing he could do now was help Wynette calm Kaylee down.
For Wynette, she honestly didn’t see much difference either way.
After thinking for a moment, she added, “Or we can bring Dad back here.”
She respected whatever Kaylee chose.
Kaylee remained silent for a long time.
Eventually, her voice broke as she choked out, “I was too extreme before. I kept forcing you to please others and do things you didn’t want to. I was wrong, Wynette. I’m sorry…”
“It’s all in the past,” Wynette said softly, hugging Kaylee’s shoulder.
Hearing that, Kaylee completely broke down and cried in Wynette’s arms.
That night, Wynette still stayed at the Jewell residence.
After watching Kaylee take her medicine and fall asleep, she quietly closed the door.
Back in her room, Wynette called Kaylee’s attending physician.
Soon, the doctor sent Kaylee’s medical records to her.
