Chapter 69 Don’t Mix Them Up
Wynette looked at the furious Liam.
She didn’t even say much. Why did he explode like that?

She met his gaze. “I haven’t even said anything yet. Are you always this short–tempered when you talk about business?”
Her words carried an implied meaning.
But Liam acted as if he hadn’t heard her at all.
He turned to Kaylee instead. “Mrs. Jewell, do you also suspect me? When you first came to me, you knew exactly what condition the company was in. Over the years, I may not have made great achievements, but I’ve definitely worked hard.
“I won’t claim I’ve led the company to great success, but I’ve done everything you instructed me to do. I can say honestly that I’ve lived up to your trust.”

By the end, Liam was clearly agitated.
Kaylee was left completely flustered.
She could only look toward Wynette for guidance.
On the way here, Wynette had repeatedly told her mother not to interfere with anything in the company, especially anything Liam said.
Even though she didn’t fully understand what Wynette planned to do, she had remembered it clearly.
If she couldn’t help,
she would at least not drag Wynette down.
Liam originally thought that after saying that, Kaylee would definitely stand on his side.
She always used to agree with him before.
For example, Kaylee had once suggested that after graduation, Wynette should join the company and let Liam guide her.
Liam had agreed on the surface, but then subtly convinced Kaylee otherwise. He told her that with Shepherd Group backing them, Jewell Group wouldn’t fall anytime soon.
The company already had its own management team in place, so Kaylee could rest easy. It would be better for Wynette to seize her chance with Noah. At least the Jewell Group would have some kind of future

Wynette blinked innocently. “Mr. Conner, I–I never said you didn’t contribute to the company. I hope you

don’t mix two matters up.”
She was talking about the contract, while he was suddenly dragging company contributions into it.

Liam’s face went cold immediately. “If you think I’m not capable, then I’ll resign. I’ve actually been unwell lately anyway. My doctor told me to rest properly for a while.”
He fixed his gaze tightly on Wynette and Kaylee.
Wynette, however, responded with concern, “When you first joined the company, you looked very energetic. I even envied that. I didn’t expect you to be sick. How serious is it?”
Faced with her concern, Liam gave a fake smile. “It’s nothing major. Just overwork. The doctor said I’ve been exhausting myself for too long, and it’s left some hidden issues. I just need rest.”
As he spoke, he looked toward Kaylee. “I only stayed because the company still needs me. I can handle a minor issue like this.”
By the end, there was even a faint trace of grievance in his tone.
What he was really saying was obvious. He had sacrificed his health for the company, and he expected nothing in return.
Wynette naturally understood the implication.
She simply smiled faintly.
Her calm attitude made Liam certain for a moment. He didn’t know how to respond.
Wynette just continued smiling.
Seeing her reaction, Liam
felt even more dissatisfied.
