He was still wearing the same clothes from yesterday. His shirt was wrinkled, his stubble unshaven, and he looked utterly haggard.

It had taken him considerable effort just to find out that Wynette was staying at Graceview Estate.

The moment he saw her, his eyes lit up with surprise. “Wynette.”

His eyes lingered on her greedily as bitterness spread through his heart.

After a long silence, he finally spoke in a hoarse voice. “Let’s talk. I was wrong about Lorelei and I have made a lot of mistakes… I’m apologizing to you… I’m sorry. Please forgive me. I won’t deny that my feelings wavered during our relationship, I…”

“Noah.” Wynette cut him off coldly. “So you always knew, huh? You knew you wanted everything at once. You knew you betrayed this relationship. If I hadn’t exposed all the ugliness, wouldn’t Mr. Noah Shepherd continue enjoying it all with no guilt?”

Her expression dripped with disdain. “And don’t tell me you regret it now. Don’t tell me you’ve completely cut ties with Loralei and want to start over with me.”

Noah’s face shifted slightly. That was exactly why he had come.

He believed he had already realized his mistakes deeply and reflected sincerely. Wynette had loved him so much before! As long as he kept asking for forgiveness shamelessly again and again, surely she would eventually forgive him.

She had always been soft–hearted and kind, hadn’t she?

One glance at his expression was enough for Wynette to know she had guessed correctly.

She let out a mocking laugh. “What am I? Some pathetic idiot? You think a simple ‘sorry‘ is enough for me to forgive you? Noah, I’m not a recycling center. You’re filthy, and I don’t want you anymore.”

“Wasn’t Loralei always better than me in your eyes? Then go find her. The two of you can stay together forever. Stop coming out and ruining other people’s lives.”

Wynette truly couldn’t understand where Noah got the confidence to think that just because he wanted to come back, she would accept him.

Noah tried to defend himself. “When Loralei came back, she told me you were the one who forced her away. She said you had people teach her a lesson, that she was terrified. I saw the photos too. At first, I didn’t believe it, but then she said she developed depression because of you.”

Noah had personally picked up Loralei’s depression diagnosis. Never once had he suspected that everything was part of a performance orchestrated by Loralei herself.

Back then, Loralei had threatened suicide repeatedly and insisted on suing Wynette.

And Noah knew Eve had never been satisfied with Wynette to begin with. If Loralei really blew the matter ap publicly, Wynette’s reputation would definitely suffer.

Hearing his explanation, Wynette found it laughable. “So Loralei said it was my fault, and you just believed her?, Noah, don’t tell me you kept Loralei by your side and took such tender care of her because you were protecting me.”
