**Chapter 123**

“Put me down,” she demanded, her voice laced with fury.

“I can’t,” he replied, his tone so unfamiliar that it sent a shiver down her spine.

“Liam, put me down; you’re scaring me,” she pleaded, her heart racing with a mix of fear and disbelief.

He didn’t even spare her a glance. With a determined stride, he moved towards his car, the tension in the air palpable. “If you run from me, I will chase you and catch you,” he warned, his voice low and intense, leaving no room for doubt about his intentions. He opened the door with a swift motion, depositing her unceremoniously into the front seat. Almost before Talya could process what was happening, she found herself buckled in, and Liam was already in the driver’s seat, a whirlwind of movement.

What just happened? She hadn’t even had a moment to consider escaping. Just as she reached for the door handle, Liam pulled out of his parking spot, tires screeching as he tore through the lot. The moment they hit the road, he accelerated, and Talya felt a jolt of panic surge through her. “Liam, this is insane! Let me out of the car!” she shouted, her voice rising in pitch. But he remained silent, his eyes fixed on the rear-view mirror, as if he were in a race against time.

“Liam! I need to work! Take me back!” she yelled, desperation creeping into her voice. Still, he offered no response, his focus unwavering.

Talya’s frustration boiled over, and she prepared to lash out, to demand he return her to safety when suddenly, he cursed under his breath, and the car surged forward like a bullet. Talya’s head snapped back against the seat, and she whipped around to see a sleek sports car tailing them closely. Panic washed over her as Liam yanked the wheel, and they careened around a corner, the car tilting dangerously on two wheels.

As they landed back on all fours and shot ahead, Talya glanced back in horror. The sports car was still right behind them, relentless in its pursuit. She turned to Liam, who appeared unnaturally calm, his knuckles white against the steering wheel. What in the world was happening?

She knew better than to vocalize her confusion; Liam needed every ounce of concentration to navigate the chaos they were embroiled in.

It was unbelievable that no police officers were in sight to pull them over.

Soon, they were barreling down the highway. Talya struggled to catch her breath, each twist and turn in traffic making her scream involuntarily. The thought of crashing loomed over her like a dark cloud. “Liam, what is going on?” she demanded, her voice tinged with both fear and anger.

He remained silent, driving like a man possessed. In a swift motion, he pulled out his cell phone and thrust it into her hands. Confused, Talya stared at him, but before she could question him, the phone rang, startling her. “Answer that and put it on speaker,” he commanded, his eyes still glued to the road.

With a shaky breath, Talya complied. “Kyle, talk to me,” Liam’s voice echoed through the speaker, laced with urgency.

“Okay; you’ve got about ten miles before you hit a speed trap. I’m looking for another route so you can avoid the police and head in a new direction,” Kyle replied, his voice steady.

“No, just get me around the police and then back on the highway,” Liam insisted, his tone firm.

“Got it,” Kyle acknowledged.

A tense silence enveloped the car, and Talya seized the moment to interject. “Um, excuse me, Kyle? While you’re helping Liam avoid the police, do you think you could call them for me and tell them that I’ve been kidnapped?” Her voice escalated into a shriek at the last word, the gravity of her situation dawning on her.

Liam ignored her completely, his focus unbroken. “Um,” she heard Kyle hesitate, and then a new voice broke through.

“He did what?” a woman’s voice exclaimed. “Liam? What did you do?”

“What? What did he do?” another voice chimed in, confusion evident.

“Liam kidnapped Talya,” one of them stated bluntly.

Oh, my word. Liam! Another voice chimed in, “Talya, my name is Emma.”
