**When Night Grows Softer Hope Returns To Lead Us by Asa Rowan Finn**

**Chapter 171**

“Do you think I should go over and talk to him?” Talya inquired, her voice laced with uncertainty as she glanced at Emma and Madison, who were both fixated on Liam.

“I’m not sure,” Emma replied, her eyes never leaving Liam’s tense figure. “He’s really upset right now.”

Madison nodded in agreement, her brow furrowing slightly. She turned her gaze back to Talya, concern etched across her features. “He’s been like this ever since you left. I honestly thought things would improve now that you’re back, but…” Her voice trailed off, leaving an unspoken worry hanging in the air.

Emma sighed, her expression heavy with sadness. “He’s furious with Garrett. You know, Garrett mentioned that this is the first time Liam hasn’t stood by him since they were kids.”

Talya felt a pang of guilt twist in her stomach. “I’m so sorry,” she murmured, her heart aching for the turmoil Liam was experiencing.

“It’s not your fault,” Emma reassured her gently, but Talya couldn’t shake the feeling that she had somehow contributed to this mess.

“It kind of feels like it is,” she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. Just then, the atmosphere shifted dramatically as Kyle began revving up the crowd, preparing them for the impending fight night. The noise crescendoed, drowning out any further conversation. Talya leaned back, her heart racing as she watched the fights unfold, her eyes searching for Liam.

It wasn’t long before Kyle announced Liam’s name. Talya’s breath hitched in her throat as she watched him stride confidently toward the fight circle, his face a mask of determination. He removed his shirt with a swift motion, tossing it aside like it was a mere distraction. Kyle signaled the start of the match, and in an instant, Liam launched himself at his opponent.

Talya winced as she saw the impact of the first hit. His opponent crumpled to the ground, and within mere seconds, Kyle called the fight, declaring Liam the victor.

“Looks like he’s moved on from everything,” Madison remarked dryly, shaking her head in disbelief. Talya felt a wave of nausea wash over her. The rest of the evening spiraled downward as Liam continued to dominate each opponent. She couldn’t help but marvel at his skill; he was a force to be reckoned with. Yet, with each victory, her anxiety grew. By the time they reached the final fight, her stomach was in knots.

“I don’t think I can bear to watch this,” Emma shouted beside her, her voice filled with dread. Talya shared that sentiment wholeheartedly. The final bout was set to be between Garrett and Liam, and she sensed that the outcome could be catastrophic.

As Kyle announced the last fight, a palpable frenzy erupted among the crowd. Talya’s heart raced as she observed Liam and Garrett stepping into the ring, the tension thick enough to slice through. “This isn’t going to end well,” Madison yelled over the din, her voice tinged with fear. Emma grasped Talya’s hand tightly on her left, while Madison clutched her right. The three of them formed a small circle of support, but Talya was gripped by terror for what was about to unfold.
