As the vivid images of her dream began to dissipate, Talya felt a sudden jolt of reality pull her back. She blinked her eyes open, finding herself once again in the familiar surroundings of Liam’s room, the morning light filtering softly through the curtains.

Liam, sensing her awakening, turned towards her, propping himself up on one elbow. His gaze was filled with concern. “You okay?” he asked, his voice laced with a hint of worry. Talya offered a reassuring nod, though her mind was still tangled in the remnants of her dream. “I’m meeting with the team this morning. We’ll probably be heading out tonight,” he added, trying to gauge her reaction.

With a determined sigh, Talya sat up, shaking off the lingering drowsiness. “Okay. I’ll go get ready,” she replied, her voice steady despite the whirlwind of thoughts swirling in her head.

“Talya, wait,” Liam called out, his tone more urgent now. She turned back, her heart fluttering slightly at the intensity in his eyes.

“I’m going with you,” Talya declared before he could voice his concerns. “You need me there to guide you. If I’m present, I can help you locate the site much more efficiently.”

“I know; Garrett mentioned it,” Liam admitted, his brow furrowing. “But I need you to promise me something. Stay close to me at all times, and no more heroics. Please, let me take care of you,” he implored, his voice thick with emotion.

A smile crept onto Talya’s face, lightening the heavy atmosphere. “Deal. I have no desire to be the hero anymore. I’m perfectly happy to let you and the other wolves take on that role,” she teased lightly, her heart swelling with affection for him.

“Thank you,” he breathed out, relief washing over him.

A sudden wave of guilt washed over Talya as she thought of her grandparents. “My grandparents are asking when I’m coming home,” she said, the words tumbling out before she could stop them. She avoided his gaze, knowing how much this would weigh on both of them. Every morning, their calls became increasingly insistent, and the pressure was mounting.

“Talya, I can’t lose you again. I won’t allow that to happen to either of us,” Liam said, his voice dropping an octave, filled with an intensity that made her heart race.

“I know, but I feel trapped,” Talya confessed, her voice thick with emotion. “I want to stay here with you—I truly do. But they’re my family, Liam. I have to be there for them.”

Liam shifted closer, sitting beside her on the bed, his presence warm and grounding. “Talya, I want to spend my life with you. I need you by my side; my wolf needs you with us. You are our mate, and I can’t let you go. But if you feel you must live with them, then I will go with you. I’ll be there too,” he said, his expression serious yet tender.

“But what about your pack?” Talya asked, her brow furrowing in concern.

“They would choose a new beta,” he replied thoughtfully. “I might even consider starting my own pack. It’s not wise to be alone without a pack, and I could never join the one that Brandon was part of,” he said, a shudder running through him at the mere thought.

“I couldn’t ask you to make that sacrifice,” Talya protested, her heart aching at the thought.

“Talya, you are my mate. If you need to return to your grandparents, then I will follow you,” he insisted, his voice firm. In a sudden shift, he pulled off his shirt, revealing the taut muscles beneath. “I think I’m going to let my wolf out for a run. I’ll be back shortly,” he said, and before she could respond, he vanished from the bedroom.

Talya watched him leave, a mixture of admiration and worry swirling within her. She then headed to the shower, knowing that if his run was anything like the last one, he would be gone for a while. After a refreshing shower, she dressed quickly, her mind racing with thoughts of the day ahead.

She pulled out her phone, texting Emma for quick directions to the coffee shop. It wasn’t far, but the route had slipped her mind. Setting her phone on the end table, Talya returned to her preparations.
