Chapter 264

Calista couldn’t be emotionally excited; she was physically weak.

I couldn’t ignore her needs, not while fighting for Aurora’s justice.

She lay back down, her body still recovering, her emotions still raw. She’d pushed herself too hard.

She closed her eyes and fell asleep soon after. My wolf settled, a quiet sigh of relief in its chest.

I placed Calista’s phone on the bedside table and sat quietly, watching her.

After the emotional outburst, having Calista here, someone to lean on, had calmed me.

Yet, tears still welled in my eyes.

I’d waited for this day, for Aurora’s justice, for what felt like an eternity.

Meanwhile, Calista’s calls to Lucian and Fenris went unanswered.

They were at a newly built amusement park in Chicago’s southern suburbs.

Lucian, inspired by Aurora’s drawings, had commissioned Fenris to build one park for Aurora.

He hadn’t thought it through; he’d just felt Aurora deserved her own amusement park, a place where she could play whenever she wanted. A place where he could make up for the past.

He intended to surprise Aurora with it; but my actions had altered his plans.

I wouldn’t let him see her, so he had to lure her out.

The park opened today. He’d planned for Aurora to be the first child to play there.

He checked everything personally, instructing Fenris, “Make the arrangements.”

“Yes, Mr. Silvermane.”

Moments later, a ten-second video appeared on the park’s LED screen: a montage of Aurora’s drawings of herself and Lucian at the amusement park. Lucian had edited it himself.

The video showed Lucian holding Aurora’s hand, carrying her, her riding on his shoulders.

The image of Aurora riding on his neck tugged at his heart.

He remembered seeing security footage of Aurora gazing enviously at neighborhood children riding on their fathers’ shoulders. Longing filled her eyes.

She’d asked me, “Mom, when Dad comes back, can I ride on his neck? Just for a little while, I won’t tire him out.”

She’d promised not to be a burden. Aurora was so thoughtful, so considerate.

When I didn’t answer, she quickly added, “Dad works hard to buy me gifts; I can’t tire him out.” She wanted it, so much, but she wouldn’t ask if it would be inconvenient for him.

Her gaze kept drifting toward the other children.

Lucian’s throat tightened. Watching the footage and remembering her words filled him with guilt. He shouldn’t have stood her up that day.

Today, he would make it up to her. He would play with her until she was exhausted. He’d let her ride on his shoulders, watch the fireworks show he’d arranged.

He wanted her to see the beauty he’d prepared for her.
