Aurora’s POV

Everybody froze under Silas’s sharp and dangerous gaze.

“S–Sorry,” Jessica stuttered. “But 100% compatibility? Are you sure? That is very rare.”

Silas ignored her and turned to me. “Aurora, do you want me to do something about this?”

I was glad that he asked for my opinion first. Because with Connor, he never seemed to care about how I thought about certain things and usually just acted without telling me.

“No. We aren’t not here to argue with a bunch of clowns. It’s just a complete waste of time,” I linked my arm with him. “Let’s go. The party is about to start.”

As we turned to leave, I caught Connor’s eye one last time.

The look on his face was priceless. It was a mixture of shock, humiliation, and panic.

He used to use Phoebe to mess with my feelings whenever he wanted, because he thought I’d never get matched with any other werebeast except him.

But now I’m with Silas. And Silas is an S–rank, one level higher than him. He must be freaking out right now.

“Are you alright?” Silas asked me again when we stepped into the venue.

There was a sense of regret in his voice. “Sorry, I should’ve stayed with you the whole time. That way nobody would have any chance to make fun of you.”

“That’s fine. I don’t care about what they say,” I patted his shoulder. “And

as long as you’re by my side, they’ll never laugh at me again.”

That’s true. What could be more enviable than having an S–rank

werebeast?

I was now living every other girl’s dream. I could literally feel Jessica’s jealous stare burning into me from the distance.

The evening wore on, and I caught sight of Connor several times throughout the night.

He is in a horrible mood. And he had quitted playing clinging with Phoebe.

She’d tried to hold his hand at one point. But Connor jerked his arm away right away and that made Phoebe stumble slightly.

Her face flushed with embarrassment and confusion. She said something to him, probably asking him why he was acting so aloof all of a sudden. But he turned away without answering and stormed off toward the bar, leaving her stand there alone.

I let out a light chuckle.

Phoebe had done everything she could to ruin my life. And now, it’s her turn to feel confused and sad for a change.

Just then, a spotlight hit the stage and a host climbed up with a mic.

“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen! Owners and werebeast!” He said warmly to the crowd of people. “Thank you for attending this year’s

Alumni Weekend. Now is time for a little entertainment. Join the challenge, and you’ll have a chance to win this prize!”

He opened the gift box on the table, and everyone in the hall gasped immediately.

The prize in the box was a gold medal, inlaid with gemstones,/exquisitely crafted. In the center were engraved the words-

“BEST OWNER AND WEREBEAST”

The host continued with a smile, “The challenge is easy. It’s aimed to test the bonds between werebeast and their owners. The werebeast would be asked questions about their owners–favorite colors, foods, fears, dreams. The more matches, the higher the score.”

The hall erupted with a round of exciting whispers.

“Do you want the prize?” Silas looked down at me and asked.

“Yes. But…” I hesitated.

“But what?”

“But she’s worried that you two don’t know a single thing about each other and will make a fool of yourselves,” said a mocking voice behind our back.

Connor had emerged out of nowhere.

That smug expression was back on his face again.

“You should participate the challenge with me,” he said to me directly.

Silas’s face changed right away. I quickly refused, “I don’t think so. You‘ re not my werebeast anymore.”

Connor grounded his teeth, clearly pissed by my response. But he still suppressed his temper and said.

“Come on. Think about it. We spent years together, Aurora. I know you inside and out. The two of us would kill it at this challenge. But him?”

He gestured dismissively at Silas, “he’s been in your life for what, a few days? You can’t win with him.”

I felt Silas tense beside me. I turned to look at him. There was a shadow in his eyes now.

He was worried that I might choose Connor instead of him.

I patted his tense shoulder and turned back to Connor.

“No,” I said simply.

Connor’s eyes immediately widened with shock.

“Are you serious?” he cried. “This guy probably doesn’t know your last name and you are choosing him instead of me?”

I shrugged, “That’s right. Because he is my werebeast now, not you. If you want to play so much, maybe you can participate with Phoebe.”

Connor’s jaw tightened, and I watched the fury begin to rebuild behind his eyes.

“Come on, Silas,” I said.

Silas immediately stood and followed me to the stage. The crowd parted for us as we made our way into the spotlight.
