Aurora’s POV

Connor stared at me with a gloating smirk.

I knew what he was thinking.

He probably thought everything I did 3 days ago was just a ploy. Some desperate move to get his attention again.

The idea that I might actually mean it, that I might have genuinely moved on, apparently hadn’t occurred to him.

“What are you doing here all alone?” he said with a sarcastic tone. “Where is your–what’s his name again–Silas?”

“He went to park the car,” I said calmly.

He let out a cold laugh. “Oh really? But I think he’s just someone you hired the other day to make me jealous. He’s not your werebeast. And he’s definitely not here today.”

The group around her erupted in laughter, and I recognized several faces from my college days. People I’d eaten lunch with, studied with, laughed with.

Now they looked at me like I was some sort of weirdo.

“Remember how Aurora used to follow Connor around like a lost puppy? Always trying to get his attention?” Jessica giggled. “Hiring someone to make Connor jealous definitely sounds like something she would do.”

I almost rolled my eyes at her. Then Connor let out a long breath and spoke up, “That’s right. I know you have your heartbroken when you kicked me out. But there’s no need for all those dramas anymore. If you beg me now, I might still come back to you. We can still form the bond.”

“Connor?” Phoebe cried out in disbelief.

Yet he didn’t even look at her.

But all I did was replied with a cold smile. “Thanks. But I’ll pass. Silas isn’t someone I hire. He is really my werebeast.”

Connor growled furiously. And Jessica snickered. “Come on, Aurora, you are willing to leave Connor? Nobody believes that.”

They all laughed out loud again. Everyone’s eyes were gleaming with the cruel satisfaction of people who’d found an easy target.

And that’s when a roar sounded behind us.
