"Oh, who cares about policy? The point is, no one is ever going to mess with you again!"
Penny leaned in, lowering her voice conspiratorially.
"Sienna, do you even know who Director Holloway is?"
Sienna shook her head.
"Isaac Holloway! He's the youngest oversight director the health board has ever had, and he's about to be named Vice President of our hospital! He comes from three generations of medical royalty. His dad used to be the President here before moving to the city board. The guy has insane power!"
Sienna's hands paused on her locker door.
"And..." Penny dropped her voice to a thrilling whisper. "He's super tight with the Fletcher family. You know the Fletchers, right? The massive aviation tech empire in Capital City. Insanely wealthy. They say he's been best friends with the Fletcher family's second son since they were in diapers. They're practically brothers."
Sienna's fingers froze over her coat.
Then she adjusted the collar smoothly and turned around.
"That has nothing to do with me," she stated.
Penny stuck her tongue out and wisely dropped the subject.
Sienna sat at the desk and took a sip from her water bottle.
The water was freezing, sending a chill all the way down to her stomach.
So, Isaac Holloway and Finn Fletcher were best friends.
That explained why they were standing together in Dayton's office earlier.
Which meant today's rescue...
She shook her head violently to clear the thought. No, Director Holloway was a man of integrity. He was just doing his job.
She brutally shut down any further speculation.
-
Around the corner in the hallway, Finn stood leaning against the wall.
He had been there the entire time, never stepping out of the shadows.
He had watched Sawyer scream in her face. He had watched her stand entirely alone, utterly defenseless against a system trying to break her.
She looked like a lone tree caught in a hurricane, branches violently thrashing, but her roots refusing to yield a single inch.
His chest ached so fiercely he could barely breathe.
He had wanted to charge out there and tear every single person who dared insult her to pieces.
