Watching her silhouette, Finn's mind raced through a thousand thoughts in a single second.
A storm of complicated emotions churned in his chest.
She actually came.
Maeve walked onto the stage and took the seat right beside him.
Once settled, her gaze swept coolly over the audience.
The entire venue fell significantly quieter than before.
The reporter, clearly bought off by the Beaumonts, persistently pressed his attack.
"Ms. Thorne, what exactly is your relationship with Mr. Fletcher? Why didn't you come out and clarify this earlier?"
Maeve suddenly let out a faint smile, laced with a chill that mirrored the cold glint of a dagger.
"What kind of payout did that little brat Sebastian Beaumont give you? Spinning tall tales off a few blurry photos."
The reporter's face flushed crimson, then drained of color.
"Ms. Thorne, you're dodging the question!"
"Oh? Am I? Baseless fabrications aren't worth my breath. Next!"
No matter what the reporters threw at her next, Maeve deflected it effortlessly in a few crisp words.
She saw right through the media circus and, more importantly, the puppet masters pulling their strings.
Meanwhile, inside a car parked just outside the venue.
Sebastian answered his ringing phone.
"Mr. Beaumont, what do we do? Maeve Thorne is here. That old hag is tough to crack; she's deflecting everything."
Sebastian muttered a quick 'hold on' into the receiver and turned to Sasha, who was sitting next to him.
"Sasha, Maeve showed up. Now what?"
Excitement glinted in Sasha's eyes.
"That's even better. Her being there makes it way more interesting. Xavier Vinson can finally make his move."
Back in the venue, a bespectacled man stood up from his seat.
He wore a dark gray suit with a Fletcher Corporation ID badge clipped to his lapel, positioned prominently in the third row.
"I have a whistleblower statement."
His voice wasn't loud, but it instantly silenced the entire room.
"I'm Xavier Vinson, a tech supervisor on Fletcher's core team. I've been with the company for ten years, and practically everyone in this room knows who I am."
