Sienna's fingers tightened involuntarily.
Director Dayton. Elias Dayton.
During her time at the hospital, he was the man who had targeted and marginalized her the most viciously.
Especially when she had resigned to join Mercy International Hospital; he was the one who deliberately blocked the transfer of her employee file.
But Sienna clearly remembered President Sawyer suspending him over that incident. How on earth had he clawed his way back into a management position?
Talk about enemies on a narrow path.
"I know him," she confirmed.
Director Huntington continued,
"He was reinstated to Medical Affairs last month. You'll go straight to him and handle this strictly by the book."
Sienna nodded firmly.
"Understood."
The following day, Sienna arrived at the Metropolis Medical University Affiliated Hospital.
By mid-September, the oppressive summer heat had finally abandoned the Metropolis.
She wore a sleek white silk blouse layered underneath a tailored, light-gray blazer. Paired with matching cropped trousers that bared a sliver of ankle, her outfit was sharp and professional.
She finished the look with a pair of practical, inch-and-a-half heels.
She looked entirely different from her days in a crumpled white coat; she now radiated the polished, intimidating authority of a government official.
Her hair was slicked back into an immaculate low bun, free of flyaways, with tiny silver studs catching the morning light.
Meanwhile, Elias Dayton was lounging behind his desk in the Medical Affairs office, legs crossed and sipping his tea.
An assistant hurried in, announcing that an inspector from the Health Commission had arrived.
Elias clattered his cup down onto its saucer and scoffed.
"Just a lackey sent to go through the motions. Get the gift cards ready—if one isn't enough, toss in two. I know how these bureaucrats operate; they're just here to squeeze some cash out of us. We treat them like royalty, grease their palms, and send them on their merry way."
-
Sienna made her way to the third floor, her eyes fixing on Elias's office at the far end of the corridor.
