No matter how hard I got pushed, I tried, really tried, not to let things end with a fist. Hitting someone always dragged me back to Steve. The way he used to hit my mom. The pain in her yes. The rage that lived in my chest because I’d been too small to stop it.
I swore I’d never be anything like him.
But for the first time in my life…
I saw red.
And before I could think, before I could breathe, my body moved.
I charged.
I grabbed the guy by the front of his shirt and yanked him toward me, my teeth clenched so tight my jaw ached.
His eyes widened.
“Hey…what the…”
I didn’t let him finish.
My fist cracked across his face.
The sound was ugly. Solid. Satisfying in the most terrifying way His head snapped to the side and he staggered, but I held on, dragging him back like he weighed nothing.
He tried to talk again, tried to fight back, tried to explain…
No.
Not today.
I drove another punch into his jaw. He stumbled, knees dipping, and that should’ve been enough.
It wasn’t.
The
rage
in my
blood was too loud. Too hot. Like it had been waiting ten years for a reason.
“How dare you,” I ground out, my voice shaking with fury as I hit him again.
He spit something, blood, maybe a curse, and I grabbed his collar tighter, pulling him up so he had to look at me.
“You put your hands on her,” I snarled, each word sharp as glass. That was the dumbest mistake you’ll ever make.”
My fists kept moving. One after the other. Knuckles stinging. My breath coming fast through my nose. He tried to cover his face. He tried to push me off. But he was already losing.
Already breaking.
Blood was on my hands. His eyes were swelling shut. His mouth was split. And some part of me, small and distant. Enew Id
gone too far.

Chapter 143
I didn’t care.
Because all I could see was Emery’s wince. His fingers wrapped around her hand. The way she looked trapped.
I hit him harder.
Again.
And again.
And again….
“Atlas.”
Her voice cut through the noise like a blade.
I didn’t stop. I couldn’t.
“Atlas, you’re gonna hurt him!”
I know.
But he touched you. If I’d been one minute later, one minute, God knows what he would’ve done.
That thought poured gasoline on the fire.
My fist drew back again…
“ATLAS!” Emery screamed..

Her hands wrapped around my arms from behind, her body pressing into my back as she fought to pull me away.
“Stop! Stop!”
I froze.
Not because I wanted to.
Because her touch hit me like ice water.
My chest heaved. My hands were still clenched. My knuckles throbbed. My vision was tunneled, heartbeat pounding like a war drum.
