I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 298

My family and my maternal grandfather’s family barely had any contact. My dad would get angry just at the mention of my grandfather.

So my impression of my mother’s family was that they were rich, but snobbish, harsh, and cruel. The older generation had several children. I had three uncles and one aunt. The aunt was Janice, and the only uncle I really remembered was my youngest, Julian.

No wonder Ryan drove a luxury car. He was from that side of the family. But how was he so close to Uncle Julian? My grandfather had disowned him. How could he still be on good terms with the younger generation?

Seeing the change in my expression, Ryan’s smile faded, and he focused on driving.

“We’re almost at the hospital.”

I sensed a deliberate caution in his demeanor, a loss of his earlier carefree attitude, but I didn’t ask. “Okay.”

Julian’s room was on the 15th floor. Ryan and I took the elevator straight from the underground parking garage, which saved me some walking.

I pulled the collar of my shirt up higher. Steven had left marks all over me, especially on my neck. I had specifically chosen a high-necked top this morning, otherwise, who knows how angry Uncle Julian would be if he saw.

As we stepped out of the elevator, Ryan finally asked, “Are you not feeling well? You’re walking a bit strangely.”

My heart skipped a beat. “I fell yesterday and scraped my knee. It’s a little sore.”

Ryan frowned immediately. “I’ll get you registered. You need to see a doctor. This doesn’t look good.”

I chuckled, then remembered something. “Okay, can you make an appointment for me? And also one at the gynecology department? But don’t let Uncle Julian know.”

Ryan stared at me, holding back for a moment before asking, “You’re not… pregnant, are you?”

I took out my insurance card from my phone case and handed it to him. I laughed. “No, don’t be ridiculous. My period is just irregular. The PIN is just six zeros.”

Ryan nodded and dutifully went to make the appointments.

I went to Julian’s room first, but he wasn't there. Instead, a man in a loose white sweater with a clean-cut appearance was sitting on the bed, looking down at something.

Strange. I thought Uncle Julian had a private room.

I nodded. He smiled and explained, “He’s your second uncle’s son. He just got back from a competition abroad—first place in racing. Don’t let his cocky attitude and colorful hair fool you. He’s actually a sweetheart, very obedient. You can boss him around all you want.”

“He’s that good?” I was amazed. A young prodigy. It made me feel rather inadequate. “But if he’s your second uncle’s son… isn’t your second uncle on good terms with Grandpa?”

Neither I nor Uncle Julian were on good terms with my grandfather. Interacting with other family members might cause trouble.

“Of course. They’re all family. How could they not be on good terms?” Julian said. “Anyway, about you and that Lancaster boy… you divorced him. You’re sure you want to make a clean break?”

I nodded dutifully.

Julian nodded too, a benevolent smile on his face that made me suspect he was plotting Steven's downfall.

“Good. Starting today, your uncle is going to introduce you to all sorts of excellent men. Top-tier family background, education, and looks. The world’s elite. You don’t have to rush into marriage. Just date around, have fun. Date as many as you like. There are plenty of men out there.”

“Don’t waste your tears on a scumbag who failed you. Live a better, happier life than him. Make him regret it so much he can never hope to reach you again—”
