I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 304

Steven was silent for a moment before replying in a flat tone.

“It was a misdial.”

A misdial? Steven was meticulous, stricter than anyone I knew. Him, make a mistake like that?

I couldn’t be bothered to figure out if he was lying. “Fine. I’m hanging up.”

“Zephyra,” he said, his cold voice stopping me. “Myron said you’re thinking of quitting?”

I had just pulled the phone away from my ear. Hearing his deep voice, I put him on speaker and continued messaging my friends. One had already replied.

“We’re completely done, so you don’t need to worry about my career. Besides, didn’t you say you never wanted to see me again? If I stay at Myron’s company, our firms will have to work together closely. Wouldn’t that mean you’d have to see me all the time? My quitting should be good news for you.”

Steven’s voice was low. “I’m not forcing you out. Myron’s company is new, but it’s well-funded and has powerful connections. It’s a good place for someone like you, a once-famous designer making a comeback.”

“Plus, you’re Mr. Taylor’s prize protégé. With that title and a bit of publicity, your value will skyrocket.”

“Before, your designs sold for tens of thousands, maybe a few hundred thousand, a million at most. In the future, you’ll easily be selling pieces for millions, even tens of millions. You could even build your own brand. Celebrity endorsements move products fast. You wanted money, right? This is how you make real money.”

The more he talked, the stranger it sounded.

I raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on my lips. “Steven, you’re not trying to recruit me, are you?”

Wouldn’t that be awkward for him? Not to mention he was going to be with Verna soon. She’d probably have a meltdown if she saw me at his company.

Steven’s voice was cold, and I could picture him speaking to me with a deadpan expression, maybe even a hint of mockery in his eyes.

“You have a promising career, and you shouldn’t throw it away. That pretty boy you were with today is one of the Lopezes. He goes through ten girlfriends a month. He’s not the one for you.”

Then, he added with a sneer, “He may be younger than me, but he’s not half as capable. All he does is race cars and fool around. He’s a player who’s loved a thousand women and will never settle for just you. Don’t dream you’ll be the one to tame him—he can’t give you what you want.”
