I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 311

Verna flinched as if struck, fresh tears welling in her eyes. She bit her lip, her expression hardening with disappointment. “Fine. You don’t care about me, but someone else does. You wanted to know who that man is? It’s Mr. Lancaster.”

“Mr. Lancaster sponsored my studies, sent me abroad. When I got into trouble over there, he was the one who protected me, who stood up for me, who gave me money and comforted me. Are you satisfied now?”

“Mr. Lancaster? Steven?!” Jacob looked at her in disbelief, then his horrified gaze shot to me. It was a look I recognized—the look of someone completely thunderstruck. “But that’s… that’s Zephyra’s husband, isn’t it? Verna, how could you get involved with a married man? Did he trick you?”

Myron couldn’t hold back any longer. “What are you talking about? Steven would never cheat on his wife! He’s not the type to deceive women!”

Only I remained calm, my expression unreadable. After all, I had lived through their love story twice now.

Verna wiped the tears from her eyes, her face a mask of cold pride.

“Who would use that much money and genuine affection to trick someone? Your precious Zephyra knows all about it. Ask her if you don’t believe me. And besides, he’s divorced now. He’s not a married man anymore.”

“He divorced her to marry me. He even bought me a house when we were overseas, but I turned it down back then because I still had you in my heart. Well, now, I’ve accepted. So you can go have a happy life with your Zephyra!”

The words hit Jacob like a physical blow. Tears streamed down his face as he stared at her as if she were a stranger.

Myron’s face contorted with anger. “You’re so beautiful, but you’re full of crap! Even if Steven did divorce Zephyra, it would never be to marry you!”

A bitter, knowing smile touched my lips. I believed every word Verna said. Steven and I had just divorced yesterday; very few people knew. How could Verna have found out unless Steven told her himself?

It all made sense now—Steven’s sudden change of heart. He must have made promises to Verna during his trip abroad. What a scumbag. He had promised himself to another woman and planned to divorce me, yet he still felt the need to sleep with me one last time. He was utter trash, rotten to the core.

He’d better hope I never saw him again, or I’d bash his head in.

The confrontation had sobered him up considerably.

I looked down at my phone, finding it hard to answer. In this life, because of my reincarnation, both Steven and Verna had changed. I could no longer predict their future, but I knew that in my past life, they had gotten engaged.

He watched my expression, his fingers clenching so tightly his knuckles turned white. He leaned back against the seat, his face a picture of despair.

“I get it. Verna and I were together for three years. I thought we’d go from college sweethearts to husband and wife. She was the love of my life. And just like that… it’s over. It’s pathetic.”

He looked at me then, his gaze searching. “Zephyra, aren’t you in pain? You don’t seem sad at all.”
