Despite her complaints, two messages popped up. She obediently opened her phone to check, then gasped.
"Holy crap, it's Aether Studio! Your ex-husband's company! Does that mean I have to negotiate with your ex-husband? Is he going to be difficult to deal with?"
My smile froze, and I frowned.
Rachel worked for a foreign company. In my past life, Steven's deal with Lucid Works fell through, and it seemed to have fallen through again this time. That meant he would probably look for another partner, just like he did before.
As I recalled, Steven had formed a long-term partnership with a foreign company called something like 'Mano-something,' and it had been very profitable.
"Rachel, what's the name of your company again?"
Rachel replied, "MANOB. Why?"
That was it. The deal Steven was trying to secure was with this company. I never expected it to be Rachel's.
I frowned slightly, but gave her a careful warning.
"I don't know what Steven is like at work, but your two companies will likely end up cooperating. When you see him, just pretend you don't know me. Don't get into any conflicts with him. You don't want to be targeted or have someone make things difficult for you after the deal is done."
Rachel stared at me in surprise. "How do you know the deal will go through? It's like you can see the future."
I was about to answer when the elevator arrived. She pulled me out, a smile lighting up her face.
Rachel clenched her fists, her sweet voice filled with admiration.
"Right? If I were that rich, I'd work my butt off! But listen, every time Hugh negotiates a deal, he tries to lose money. But he has some kind of Midas touch, and everything he touches turns to gold."
"The company just keeps getting bigger, and the partners he seeks are more and more high-profile. He's just trying to make a huge, loss-making deal so he can finally bankrupt the company and go back to chasing his dream. But so far, he's still making a ton of money."
"And from what I know, Hugh's dream is to play Go at a world-class level. It's his only hobby. He even has a Go idol, someone named Omar. This is all very confidential; I only know because I overheard it when I was at the head office abroad."
"It's an internal company secret, so there's no way Steven could find out. And even if he did, he'd still have to figure out how to play his cards right. If Steven just talks money, he's guaranteed to fail—"
