Facing the burly bodyguards, he swallowed his curses, all his earlier arrogance about crippling Ryan gone.
"I know you didn't. I just felt like hitting you," Ryan said smugly, slapping him twice more.
Martin was so angry he nearly had an aneurysm.
Suddenly, Ryan grabbed Martin by the collar. His smile was roguish, but his eyes were ice-cold. "Let me tell you something. I really don't like you. You should be glad that slap didn't land on Zephyra's face. If it had, you'd be spending today in a jail cell, and I'd make sure you never got out."
Looking at the cold-eyed young punk, Martin felt a chill of fear.
Just then, I came out holding my mother's memorial tablet.
Ryan let go of Martin's collar.
If looks could kill, Martin would have murdered me a thousand times over. I walked up to him again, my eyes cold, and looked at the bright red handprints on his face.
I didn't have to guess. It was clearly the hot-blooded Ryan who had gotten revenge for me.
"You need money, right? I have money now. I don't need Steven. I can save the Jones family myself. I'll clear all your debts. But there are conditions."
Martin and Janice's expressions changed again. After exchanging a look, Martin forced a smile.
"I knew it. I knew Zephyra still cared about her father and the Jones family. As long as you're willing to help, whatever you want, your father will give it to you!"
Ryan pressed his lips together, looking at me in surprise.
I glanced at Martin, and seeing his fawning smile, a cold sneer touched my lips.
"First, transfer all of your shares to my name. I will protect your reputation and ensure people still respectfully call you Mr. Jones. Second, leave Ixia. I'll give you a sum of money as a buyout for our father-daughter relationship. It will be enough for you to live comfortably for the rest of your life. If you need to support a family, you'll have to find another job."
Martin and Janice's faces fell instantly.
Martin exploded. "Zephyra, how dare you covet my property at your age? I asked you to save the Jones family, not to steal it! If I give you everything, what will I have left? Get out! Get out right now! I'll act as if I never had a daughter. From now on, the Jones family has nothing to do with you!"
In my past life, before I drove my father to bankruptcy, she had taken Antonia and run off with his money. This time, the Jones family's collapse was too sudden, and she hadn't had a chance to flee. I was curious to see what kind of shameless scheme a person like her would cook up to save herself.
The bodyguards stood in two rows beside me, creating an intimidating presence. Janice looked at me, her face grim.
"You don't need to know how I'll do it. Just promise me one thing. If I can get your father to sign the share transfer agreement, you have to do something for me."
"What is it?"
"You've divorced Mr. Lancaster, so he must be lonely. I want you to help me set up a meeting between him and Antonia. You don't have to do or say anything. I just need you to get them to have one dinner together."
She didn't spell it out, but I could practically see the gears turning in her head.
I couldn't help but laugh, though there was no humor in my eyes. "You want to scheme against Steven? Use me to get that idiot Antonia into his bed so she can be the next Mrs. Lancaster?"
"You!" Janice gritted her teeth. "Just tell me, will you agree or not?!"
