I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 437

The light in Steven's eyes shifted. I watched him frown, his gaze turning icy, and I let out a mocking laugh.

I shook off his hand and poked a finger into his chest.

"Cat got your tongue? Steven, you're truly despicable. You want to have your cake and eat it too. This is my final warning: stop bothering me. At least then the Lancaster family can keep some of its dignity. Otherwise…"

Steven cut me off without hesitation. "Verna won't affect us. Just think of her as... window dressing, alright?"

"Window dressing?" I laughed, furious. He makes her his secretary and calls her window dressing? That bastard never failed to disappoint. He was always like this. I was about to say something, but Steven, as if reading my mind, spoke first, his voice low and calm.

"You don't seem to believe me. How about this? We'll have her marry Horace. They can have their life, and we can have ours. Everyone goes back to their rightful place. What do you think?"

I thought he was just trying to provoke me and shot him a venomous glare.

"Who the hell does Verna think she is? She's not worthy of Horace. You're trash, and you two deserve each other! Get lost!"

But Steven held onto my wrist, a smirk playing on his deceptively handsome face.

"You don't think they're a match? I think they'd be perfect for each other."

Hearing the seriousness in his tone, I realized he wasn't just trying to annoy me. I looked at him, confused and surprised.

How could Steven say something like that? Had he fallen out of love with Verna?

Besides, he harbored such intense animosity toward Horace. For him to seriously suggest Verna and Horace were a good match was utterly unbelievable.

"Steven, what are you planning? Are you saying you'll only give up Verna if I give up Horace?" It was the only possible motive I could think of—he was just trying to shut me up.

I fell silent, my nails digging into my palms. Helplessly, I asked, "Steven, who operated on your brain?"

Steven's face darkened. "Are my words that hard to understand? Why don't you believe me?"

I understood perfectly. He meant Verna was still important to him, but now he was in love with me.

I gave a sarcastic smile. "You're just upset that I dumped you. And now that Verna has conveniently changed her personality and is willing to be with you, your object of obsessive pursuit has switched from her to me."

"You call Verna 'window dressing.' The next time I fall for you, I'll be the new window dressing. I used to think you loved Verna, that you were so madly in love you couldn't live without her. I almost respected you for being so devoted, willing to throw away your pride for her. But now, seeing you turn that same 'devotion' on me... it just makes me sick!"

"Steven, you don't know the first thing about love. Get out of my life, before you force me to kill you!"
