Linda leaned in and whispered to me, "That woman, I think she's Mr. Lancaster's new assistant. I saw her at the venue earlier, totally stealing the show. A lot of big bosses were trying to go through her to schedule a meeting with Mr. Lancaster."

"But she's really beautiful. Aren't you worried something might happen, leaving her by Mr. Lancaster's side?"

Linda's expression was one of shock. "What? How could you divorce a man that rich? Even if you don't want the man, his money is pretty attractive!"

I continued walking. "No, thanks. I'm quite wealthy myself now. I'm not interested in earning my keep that way."

Linda looked heartbroken. "...Sometimes, I just want to fight you rich people."

Verna seemed to spot me. Her gentle smile stiffened for a moment before she recovered. After saying something to the men, she started walking toward us.

Her pretty, innocent face had turned cold. "Zephyra, you're everywhere. Are you following Mr. Lancaster's scent?"

Upon hearing my words, a look of disgust crossed Linda's face. "There are two things I hate most in this world: unqualified hacks at work who step on my head, and mistresses. If I see one and don't say something, I feel sick."

With that, she turned to Verna with a look of annoyance. "You say Mr. Lancaster hates her, but where's the proof? From what I've seen, Mr. Lancaster likes our Zephyra just fine. Where did you pop out from, riding on his coattails? You don't look like a good person. Do you really think just because Mr. Lancaster and Zephyra are divorced, you can just step up and take her place?"

"Ha! Dream on!"

Verna's face instantly darkened, and she laughed coldly. "I'm the mistress? The mistress is clearly Zephyra! You should look up how long Mr. Lancaster and I have known each other. We've known each other for almost ten years. Why don't you talk about how Zephyra used Mr. Lancaster Sr.'s affection for her to force Mr. Lancaster into marrying her?"
