I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 505

The video zoomed in, showing the moment Steven and Verna were pulled onto the speedboat.

Verna was unconscious. Steven was soaked to the bone; he'd taken off his jacket, and his wet shirt clung to his body, revealing the powerful muscles beneath—a look both wild and sensual.

He said something, and Gordon immediately started performing first aid on Verna. Steven looked back toward the yacht, as if searching for something. The video was filled with static, but you could hear Myron yelling his name, shouting that I had fallen, and gesturing wildly.

The distance was too great for Steven to react at first. After a dozen seconds, he seemed to understand Myron's gestures and suddenly dove back into the sea.

The video ended abruptly.

My brow furrowed.

Myron said, "Sometimes I don't get why Steven is so good to Verna either. But you saw it yourself. After they pulled Verna up, he didn't even glance at her. He’s been searching for you."

"Believe it or not, I don't think he actually heard what I was saying. He was just afraid that the person who fell was you, so he jumped without a second thought."

I frowned. "That's all in your head. How do you know Steven jumped for me?"

A rare expression, one that didn't fit his usual playful persona, crossed Myron's handsome face. He looked at me with a half-smile.

"Come on, Zephyra, don't fool yourself. Why would he care about Mr. Wilson? The only person he would be looking for is you. You know better than anyone how rational Steven is, but he jumped before he could even confirm you weren't on the boat. Why?"

"Because he panicked. He was afraid you were really in the water. He was even more afraid you would die in there."

Myron left, casually tossing out Steven's room number before he went. He said it was up to me whether I went to see him or not; he was done with it.

I sat on the hospital bed, my fingers twisting the blanket, my mind in turmoil.

Steven's second jump... was it really to save me?

It seemed impossible, but I couldn't think of any other explanation.

The video was shot from too far away to see the change in Steven's expression clearly, but I could have sworn I saw tension and fear on his face just before he jumped.

Why?

I just didn't understand.

"I won't oppose you anymore, and I won't say Zephyra is stealing what's mine. You'll always belong to me. No one can take you away."

My eyes widened in disbelief.

What? Mr. Lancaster Sr. was going to leave me part of his inheritance?

Was that why Steven's attitude had changed so drastically?

In my memory, Steven wasn't a greedy person. And his grandfather couldn't possibly be giving me his entire fortune, could he? Why would he pretend to be entangled with me over a bit of money?

But he had been vehemently against Mr. Lancaster Sr. adopting me as his granddaughter. The last time his grandfather brought it up, he'd nearly disowned him...

Verna's gentle voice continued, each soft word exploding like a bombshell in my heart.

"But please, don't do anything so risky again. I feel like Zephyra is too heartless. Even if you pretended to risk your life to save her this time, she wouldn't be grateful. Just let it go. If he wants to give her the inheritance, let him. I can help you build your own company."

"Steven, let's get married, okay?"
