Steven suddenly narrowed his eyes. “You’re even moving your company?”
I nodded obediently. “It’ll be easier for me to work if I move it. Or I could dissolve it. As long as the process can be expedited so it doesn’t delay my departure.”
Steven’s gaze locked onto mine. I met his stare without flinching and smiled. “It’s just moving a company. My family is here. Are you afraid I’ll run away?”
His tone was flat. “Can you say you won’t?”
I tilted my head, smiling slightly. “Unless your company collapses, you could just drag me back even if I did run away. So, are you going to help me or not?”
His eyes were fixed on me. “I don’t want to help you. We haven’t even reconciled, and you’re already planning to leave. You’ll be surrounded by other men. I have the means to get rid of them, but it would make me very angry. Tell me what you want to study and who you want to study with. I can arrange to bring them here to teach you.”
My eyes widened. His perspective was truly unexpected.
“I’m going there to study, not to date. Back then, when Verna went abroad, why weren’t you worried about her meeting other people? You were willing to support her dream, so why not mine?”
He was unmoved. “I can bring the people you need here.”
“I don’t need one-on-one tutoring. I just want to go abroad and study like a normal person. Besides, do you really think you can just summon those professors to come here?”
“That’s my problem to worry about.”
“Steven, you’re the one who’s supposed to be pursuing me right now! You need to have a better attitude!”
Steven’s lips curled. “My attitude is perfectly fine. Zephyra, either I bring the people here for you, or you can forget about it. Or, you can wait until my overseas project is settled, and I’ll go with you. If you think you’re leaving me, you’re not.”
I never expected him to help. I just didn't want him to stand in my way. It was better to get some things out in the open early.
The closet was filled with designer clothes. I picked out a white knit dress, put on some simple makeup, slipped on a pair of heels, and threw on a blue woolen coat. The reflection in the mirror looked much gentler, much more like the perfect wife. It was my style from my past life.
I looked down at the wedding ring on my finger and gave a sarcastic laugh before heading downstairs to find Steven.
He was waiting for me in the car. I got into the driver’s seat. He glanced at me, and for a moment, his expression seemed dazed. He only snapped out of it when I said that after I got my phone, I wanted to visit his company.
He frowned. “My company?”
“Yes. Since we’re married again, can’t I go take a look around your office?” I casually tucked a strand of hair behind my ear, my eyes mocking him. “Or are you afraid I’ll bully your pretty secretary?”
