“Say "I do" to Horace, and I'll turn your wedding suite into our scene. That's a promise.”
That sick pervert!
I was agitated, gritting my teeth. I wanted to see how many messages he had sent me after I blocked him, and what they said.
Suddenly, he nuzzled my neck, his hand casually falling on my wrist. I froze instantly, not daring to move.
After he settled down, I breathed a sigh of relief but didn't dare to look at the phone any longer for fear of being caught. I put the phone back where I found it on his nightstand.
The next day.
The entire mansion was spotless, showing no trace of yesterday’s mess. The floors and sofa were clean.
The scent of breakfast wafted through the hall.
As I came downstairs, several housekeepers greeted me warmly. “Good morning, Mrs. Lancaster.”
My eyes darkened slightly. I hadn't realized Steven had hired staff. Was he planning on living here long-term?
Was he really going to try and build a life with me? That was a far more complex and heartfelt endeavor than simply sleeping together.
“Where’s Steven?”
Just as the words left my mouth, Steven walked in through the front door. He was dressed in simple casual wear. He looked up, his eyes fixing on me as he asked calmly, “Looking for me?”
I walked down the stairs. “I left in such a hurry yesterday, I didn’t bring my phone. I want to go back and get it today.”
Steven’s long, lean legs brought him toward me. “I’ll buy you a new one.”
“No, thanks. The one I have is practically new. I don’t want to replace it.”
Steven glanced at me but didn’t push the issue.
“I’ll drive you.”
“Fine.”
Now, hearing him suggest a honeymoon, I found it laughable. In a flash of insight, I realized this must have been how he felt back then.
How could you go on a honeymoon with someone you didn’t love?
I took a bite of my breakfast and returned his words to him verbatim. “I’m busy. If you want to travel, you can go by yourself.”
Steven’s handsome face tensed. I added, “The competition is over now, and my professor said many foreign companies want to connect with me. I’m also planning to study abroad, so I need to start making arrangements by tomorrow at the latest. I can’t let the opportunity I fought so hard for go to waste.”
Steven pressed his lips together, his face calm beneath his short hair. “You’re going abroad?”
I didn't hide it. I looked up at him. “Yes. I’m not skilled enough, so I need to pursue further studies. My professor has already approved my application to Verdantis and even wrote me a letter of recommendation.”
I thought Steven would try to stop me, but to my surprise, he didn't object. “How long will you be gone?”
“It’s a professional program, so at least a year,” I said honestly, watching him. “But I’ve run into a problem. I registered a company here with ten million in capital. I won’t need it for a while, so I want to transfer it overseas, but the process is very complicated. Do you know of a better way?”
If I had known I was going abroad, I wouldn't have been in such a rush to start a company. I had invested a large amount of capital to build client trust. Since it’s a privately-held company, transferring it overseas is difficult. But liquidating it would involve asset assessments and other procedures that would take too long, making it hard for me to leave on short notice.
