At his words, Antonia gasped, her eyes wide with shock.
Then she bit her lip, her face twisting with jealousy.
I was surprised too, unable to stop myself from looking at Steven.
He was going to disown his own mother for me?
Was Steven truly insane? If this had happened in my past life, he either would have ignored it or said a few words on his mother's behalf. How could he be completely on my side now?!
Mrs. Lancaster burst into loud, wailing tears.
“They always say, a new wife makes a man forget his own mother! You hit your brother and threaten your mom. I’m the one who’s badly hurt, yet you protect your wife—your ex-wife! How can you do this as a son? Does your conscience not bother you?”
“Steven, we are mother and son! If your father hears the outrageous things you just said, he’ll be furious! There’s no precedent for disowning family in the Lancaster history!”
Steven’s lips twisted into a scornful smirk.
He paid Mrs. Lancaster no more mind and turned his cold, knife-like gaze on Antonia.
Terrified, Antonia dropped to her knees in front of me. Steven was willing to cast off his own mother; if she didn’t beg for mercy, she was afraid she’d meet a terrible end.
She started crying, snot and tears running down her face. “Zephyra, we’re family! I didn’t push you either! It was that old woman who pushed you, it has nothing to do with me! At most, I just impersonated you, but I’ll never do it again, I swear! Please, help me. Don’t let Steven do anything!”
I knew Antonia wasn’t sincerely remorseful, but an idea came to me. I looked at Steven.
“I’ve already dealt with her. You don’t need to do anything. I’m tired. Can you handle the medical bills so we can go home?”
Antonia looked at me, surprised.
Steven frowned, studying me for a moment. “You don’t want me to handle her?”
“No.”
“No way, I’m not getting beaten again…” Antonia instinctively rejected the idea, then paused for a few seconds before looking at me. “What do you mean? You’re going to push Steven into my arms?”
I stopped walking and looked at the bewildered Antonia.
The idea had just occurred to me. Noah once told me that if I had proof of Steven cheating, my chances of winning the case would be one hundred percent. Unfortunately, Verna had the desire but not the guts; she never dared to make a move on Steven.
But Antonia was different. She was foolish and shamelessly bold, and she had been lusting after Steven for a long time. She was the perfect tool for the job.
“That’s right. I’ll give you a chance to get with Steven. Seduce him however you want. As long as you can get an intimate photo with him—a kiss, a picture in bed, anything—I’ll pay you a hundred thousand per photo. A million for an intimate video. How about it?”
“And if you actually manage to hook him, becoming Mrs. Lancaster is just a matter of time. You wouldn’t have to go through all the trouble of impersonating me.”
Antonia’s eyes nearly popped out of her head. She looked at me with a mixture of disbelief and outrage.
“Are you insane? Steven just disowned his mother for you! He’s so protective of you! He came rushing to the hospital the moment he heard you were hurt and was about to deal with me for you! He’s so good to you, and you’re asking me to seduce him? Zephyra, you’re so cruel! Aren’t you afraid of what he’ll do when he finds out?!”
