I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 569

Steven's mood was bright as he glanced at me.

"The overseas project team is managed by Yves. I don't usually interfere in his work. If you want to be an intern, you'll probably have to follow his instructions."

"That's fine. I can be his assistant. I am your wife, after all. It would be a bit beneath me to be an assistant to someone of a lower rank."

Steven narrowed his eyes at me. I added, "I won't discuss anything with Yves besides work, okay? If that's not enough, I can install a security camera so you can watch me anytime. Would that work?"

He pinched my cheek. "As long as you know your limits, I'll agree to anything."

I smiled and poured him a glass of water. "Thank you. I'll treat you to something nice another day."

Steven's eyes deepened, and he let out a low, long laugh. He lifted me into his arms and started walking upstairs.

"How about now? Let me have my fill now."

My heart trembled slightly. I wrapped my arms around his neck and lied without blinking.

"I'm afraid I can't satisfy you tonight. I just got my period."

Steven paused, a flicker of disappointment crossing his face before his lips curved into a slight smile. He gently placed me on the soft, large bed.

"It's fine."

I sank into the mattress. He started unbuttoning his shirt, tossing it aside before leaning over me. I was a little shocked, not expecting Steven to be into such kinky, messed-up stuff that he'd still want to fool around even when I was on my period.

Annoyed, I tried to push him away, nearly grabbing a vase to smash over his head.

But he pressed forward, his lips moving relentlessly across my face.

"I won't go inside you, Zephyra," he breathed heavily, grabbing my hand and guiding it downwards, his eyes filled with a pleading hunger. "But I'm in a lot of pain. It hurts. Please, help me, okay?"

I opened my mouth to refuse, but he silenced me with another kiss, and a wave of frustration washed over me.

I should have known. Steven always made it seem like I had a choice, but in the end, the outcome was always the one he wanted.

*It's okay. Endure it.*

Tomorrow, I'd be by Yves's side. It was almost over. As soon as I got the bid details, this nightmare would finally end!

---

Yves was a very capable man, but he was fiercely loyal to Steven. His brow relaxed.

"Of course, Madam."

I behaved myself, discussing only the overseas project with Yves and never mentioning anything else. I certainly didn't peek at his confidential files. When our discussions were over, I sat quietly at my desk, sketching my own designs.

Later, I privately sent recordings of my conversations with Yves to Noah.

Time passed peacefully.

As lunchtime approached, I went to the restroom and happened to run into Verna, who was cleaning the thirteenth floor.

She wore a baggy janitor's uniform, her hair tied back carelessly. Her skin was incredibly fair, and even in such simple clothes, her pure, pretty features couldn't be hidden.

I raised an eyebrow, surprised that Verna could swallow her pride like this. A top student working as a janitor—wasn't she furious?

Verna saw me too, and her gentle eyes instantly blazed with anger.

"Zephyra!" She slammed her mop on the floor, her voice seething. "What exactly are you doing by Mr. Lancaster's side? Are you planning to hurt him? Let me tell you, anyone in this world can go after him, anyone has the right to, except for you and Horace. You two don't deserve to!"
