The more he spoke, the tighter he clenched his fist. The freshly bandaged wound on his hand instantly started bleeding again. My heart hammered in my chest, a chill running through me, my fingers growing colder.
I looked up at him. He seemed oblivious to the pain, his eyes locked on me, obsessively demanding an answer.
“You’re tired. You should get some rest.”
I put down the glass and tried to leave, but he grabbed my slender wrist, his dark eyes blazing. “Answer me. Can we, or can we not, be together properly?”
His grip was so tight I felt like my bones were about to shatter. I winced in pain and tried to pull my hand away. “Steven, you’re hurting me! Let go!”
“This hurts you?” he sneered, the fury in his eyes finally boiling over, thick and suffocating. “Do you have any idea how much pain I was in just now? Zephyra, I thought that even if it was all a lie, you’d give me a little bit of your heart. I’m not asking for all of it right now. We have time. I just needed a little, but you wouldn’t even give me that!”
“You made a mistake. If you really wanted to escape, you shouldn’t have tried to disgust me with another woman. You should have killed me. Only by killing me can you truly leave me, understand?”
No wonder Antonia said Steven was a lunatic.
I thought he was insane too.
I looked at Steven’s impossibly handsome face, at his crazed expression, and a deep, indescribable fear spread through me.
I had rarely seen him so out of control. How could pushing Antonia on him drive him this mad?
“Steven, you’re not in a good state of mind. I don’t want to fight with you. Let go. I’m going to bed.”
I was left flailing at the air, furious. “Steven!”
“When you were on your way home, I was thinking, if you just apologized, I would let today’s incident go. We could go back to how we were these past few days. Even if it was an act, I would have gladly played along. But you refused to admit you were wrong. Zephyra, you have no remorse for what you did to me.” His voice was low, almost suffocating in the quiet room.
“You are my wife. I won’t hurt you. But you started this, and now we have to finish it.”
“I’ve thought about it. You wanted a video, right? Recording someone else is no fun. Why don’t we record ourselves? I only broke one camera. I left the one by the bed.”
“Tonight, we’ll do it right. And tomorrow, we’ll start trying for a baby, hmm?”
