“Now, Aether Studio doesn’t need to be making huge profits. We can maintain our existing projects, close a few small deals, and we’ll do just fine. That’s better than letting Mr. Lancaster continue to lose money, right? If he keeps this up, how long do you think Aether Studio will last?!”
Mr. Winters snapped, “Let’s wait until Mr. Lancaster gets here. I don’t want to listen to your nonsense.”
Mr. Lee sneered. “Suit yourself. But I’ll say this too: if Mr. Lancaster skips even this meeting, then all of you really need to think carefully. Do you want to switch leaders and keep making money, or stick with the status quo and wait to go bankrupt?”
Mr. Winters and his allies fell silent. The neutral members, however, frowned slightly, deep in thought.
Thomas, looking smug, glanced down at a message on his phone from his new partners, his confidence soaring.
His brother wasn’t coming.
The weather in Ixia had been terrible lately. A brief bit of morning sun had given way to dark, heavy clouds that promised more rain.
A fierce wind swept across the bridge, whipping my hair into my face. Verna’s long, straight hair flew wildly around her. Her eyes were blazing with fury as she glared at me.
“I really didn’t want to have to explain this to you, but things have gone this far. If you remain clueless, everything could fall apart. I have to stop you.”
My face was a mask of indifference. “Has anyone ever told you that you talk too much? I don’t like listening to nonsense.”
“You—” Verna was choked by my words, her smooth, pretty face flushing with anger.
“You really are the character I despise the most, bar none!”
“The reason Mr. Lancaster is so obsessed with you is because you seduced him. You made him fall head over heels for you, to the point where he can’t live without you! From what I know, you two… you’ve been entangled for at least three lifetimes.”
Three lifetimes?
Does that mean I’ve been reborn three times?
My pupils constricted, and a disbelieving smile touched my lips.
“Do I look like an idiot to you? If I’d lived three times, don’t you think I’d know about it?”
Verna glared at me, livid. “Are you insane? Why did you hit me?”
My reasoning was sound. “You just called me useless.”
She was the one who said she’d tell me the truth, but then she just dropped a teaser and refused to elaborate, and then insulted me on top of it.
We were not on good terms. I was not the type to sit there and meekly take her verbal abuse, thank you very much.
I could feel Verna was on the verge of exploding with rage.
But she reined it in, taking a deep breath. “You win. You hot-tempered, vicious villainess.”
I was used to her ridiculous descriptions of me. I looked her in the eye. “You said you know Steven and I have had three lifetimes. Explain.”
Verna touched her stinging cheek, but this time, she got straight to the point.
