I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 601

Something inside me snapped. I felt as if I’d been struck by lightning, unable to react for a long moment.

Now I finally understood why Steven Lancaster always showed Verna Garcia such special consideration.

She was the heroine, after all. How could he possibly stand by and do nothing?

So Steven hadn't been lying, but why couldn't he have just said it plainly?

Who would have guessed the truth was this absurd?

And who would have thought that in our past life, he had truly loved me?

The pain and resentment tangled up between Steven and me were actually wrapped in his deep affection.

I should have been moved, but instead, I laughed with bitterness.

“Do you all have a copy of the script? Did you know I was going to die? But if I recall correctly, if Steven hadn't pushed me, I wouldn't have been drinking every day, feeling so tormented, and I wouldn't have gotten stomach cancer. Haven't you got the cause and effect backward?”

I decided to take everything Verna said as the truth for a moment, but when Steven forced me to divorce him, I wasn't sick.

If I wasn't sick, I wouldn't have died. And if I wasn't going to die, did I really need Steven's self-sacrificing, self-congratulatory brand of torment disguised as salvation?

Verna’s face was cold. “There’s no need to act in front of me. In the past life, Mr. Lancaster didn't have his memories at first. The way you two met, got to know each other, and developed your feelings—that was what was closest to the truth.”

“In that life, you were deeply in love with Horace Spencer. When he died, you not only lost your child in your grief but also lost the will to live. You drank day and night for him, crying until you were sick with stomach cancer. It was all for Horace, so why are you now saying Mr. Lancaster was the one who hurt you?”

“Mr. Lancaster was already being merciful. You were the one who was unfaithful to him, yet he couldn't bear to let you die. He was still trying everything he could to save you.”

“Besides, you and Horace were meant to be a couple. He was your first love. It was your destiny to fall for him.”

A brief silence fell between us.

A bolt of lightning cut across the gloomy sky, followed by a deafening clap of thunder.

And conveniently, he didn't want me anymore either.

Let this twisted fate end here.

I looked up at the woman before me. Dressed in a white gown, her long, straight black hair fluttered in the wind. A picture of innocence, blossoming in the dim light before a storm, she was stunningly beautiful.

If you could ignore the jealousy in her eyes.

“If Steven is so deeply in love with me, shouldn't you be trying to hide it, to keep me from ever knowing? What’s your motive for telling me all this?”

Verna’s eyes flickered as she stared at me intently.

“I do have a motive. Zephyra Jones, you are currently walking the path of the villainess. You're supposed to be in love with Horace, fighting against me and Mr. Lancaster. According to the original plan, you shouldn't be able to harm him. But as I said, Mr. Lancaster is so deeply in love with you that variables have been introduced.”

“Now his company is in trouble, he’s lost a major project, Thomas Lancaster is trying to usurp his position, and many people are ganging up on him. I even heard from Gordon that his grandfather had an accident. This is the butterfly effect! You’ve created this mess, and now you have to take responsibility for it!”
