I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 602

The butterfly effect?

Except for Grandpa Marico’s accident, the rest of it sounded more like a well-orchestrated play I had directed myself.

My expression was calm. “How do I take responsibility?”

Verna bit her lip. “Some things are hard to explain to you, and even if I did, you wouldn't be able to hear them. All I can say is, Mr. Lancaster can't love you anymore. Something terrible will happen to him!”

“The hero can't end up with the villainess. This has to be set back on the right track immediately! Zephyra, in the first life, after you died, Mr. Lancaster died for you. In the last life, he only loved you, and for you, he…”

Her eyes flickered, and she paused. “He gave so much, only to die for you again. This time, he regained his memories after the car accident, but he hasn't done anything to hurt you, has he?”

“Think about it. Since the accident, not only has he not harmed you, but he's protected you at every turn, right? He put me in my place for you, dealt with everyone who bullied you. Even the kidnapping on the cruise… because of my special status, he had to save me. He never expected you to be in danger.”

“But he still jumped in after you and injured his leg. He has done so, so much, all just to rekindle what you two had. But you, all because of a misunderstanding from a past life, you’re seeking revenge, hurting him and his family. Can you live with yourself?”

My expression shifted slightly, and I pressed my lips together.

Verna looked me in the eye. “The villainess is destined to die. Even if you go abroad, you'll still die. You can't escape it.”

I snapped my head up. Verna’s expression was grave; she didn't look like she was lying.

“If I stay away from Steven, I'll still die?”

She said, “Yes. Have you ever seen a villain survive to the end?”

Verna gritted her teeth. “You're the villainess. You hurt Mr. Lancaster, and you're destined to die young. Dying now would be a kindness to many. After you’re gone, fate will help resolve Mr. Lancaster's crisis, and your family will be safe.”

I narrowed my eyes. Even if I believed her, believed this world was fictional and everything was predetermined, it still felt absurd. A fierce sense of injustice rose within me.

“I'm the villainess? Who decided that? I married Steven, we were in love, and then you show up, declare you're the heroine, and I'm supposed to respectfully hand my husband over to you? And on top of that, I have to die early so I don't get in your way? Ha! What a load of bullshit. I don't even have the energy to curse you.”

“And another thing, just because I go against the hero, that makes me the villainess? Then tell me, what did I do wrong in the first two lives to deserve an early grave?”

“And let’s forget the unfair treatment for a second. Steven, as the hero, gets tricked by a villainess and has to rely on fate to save him? He’s pretty pathetic. Does he even deserve to be the hero?”

“And you—the great heroine, getting everything without lifting a finger, enjoying the hero's special affection. And now you have the nerve to tell me, a villainess, to go slit my own throat so you can save the world? You've got some serious nerve!”
