I Walked Away Seven Years Too Late But Right on Time novel Chapter 269

The next morning, Graham and Harold came upstairs for breakfast, running straight into Gavin as he was walking down.

"Is Coco asleep?" Graham asked.

"Yeah, just went down."

Right now, they had a system: Sophie handled the nursing, and he handled the burping and rocking to sleep.

"Sobered up, have we?"

Gavin shot Harold a deeply embarrassed look before answering his dad like a scolded teenager. "I sobered up last night. I took the night shift with Coco."

"Sorry you had to see that, Harold. We kept a tight leash on him growing up, absolutely no alcohol allowed. Even in college, he barely drank. He's got the tolerance of a toddler, but at least he's a happy drunk. He doesn't throw punches or cause a scene."

Graham was doing his best to salvage his son's dignity in front of his father-in-law.

Sophie pressed her lips together, fighting a smile. When her eyes met Gavin's, his blush only deepened.

"Watch your intake when you're out. Don't make a fool of yourself in front of the kids," Graham scolded gently.

He knew perfectly well that other people were too polite to call his son out, so as a father, he had to be the one to lay down the law.

Gavin nodded meekly and pulled out the dining chairs for his dad and father-in-law.

"Tolerance takes practice. I used to be a lightweight too, but I built it up drinking homemade cider," Harold chimed in, tossing Gavin a lifeline.

Right on cue, Sarah walked out of the kitchen carrying a massive pot of cider-braised chicken stew. Harold pointed at the pot and said to Gavin, "You should drink some of this. Your mother-in-law makes incredible cider. In fact, her tolerance is terrifying. She drinks me under the table."

Sophie looked at her mother in shock. She had never seen her mother touch a drop of alcohol, let alone known she could outdrink Harold.

Sarah didn't miss a beat. She shot Harold a glare so sharp it could cut glass. Harold snapped his mouth shut instantly.

Graham, Gavin, and Sophie all collectively decided to stare very hard at the table, biting their lips to suppress their laughter.

The household hierarchy couldn't be clearer.
