I Was Never Part of Their Story novel Chapter 7

Chapter 7

Melissa’s POV

When the plane landed on foreign soil, I looked out at the unfamiliar scenery outside the window. It felt as though a lifetime had passed.

I had barely stepped out of the arrival hall when spotted my father’s slightly hunched figure.

The once dominating business tycoon now had streaks of white on the sides of his temples. Upon noticing me, his eyes immediately turned glassy.

Back then, Summer Group had decided to expand into the overseas market. However, I had obstinately remained in the country to marry Caleb. Not only did this go against Dad’s wishes, but I had even gone as far as to cut off all ties with him.

Hence, it had been six years since I last saw my family.

“Dad…” My voice sounded choked as I threw myself into his arms. “Forgive me for

abandoning you back then for that bastard, Caleb ”

Dad hugged me back fiercely. Instead of berating me for my impulsiveness all those years ago, he simply said, “At least you’ve returned home now.”

Hot tears pricked at my eyes as I finally understood a truth-my parents would forever and always be my safe space.

In the past, I was blinded by love and mistakenly thought that Caleb, the man who had divorced me seven times for the sake of his first love, would be my home.

Once in the car, Dad said to me, “I’ve already bought 17% of Jenson Group’s shares.”

I shook my head. “You don’t have to take revenge for me. I’d like to handle my own matters.”

“This isn’t revenge.” He shot me a serious look. “It’s a welcome gift to celebrate your return. and your taking over of the family business.”

Three years later.

“Ms. Summer, this is the financial report for the third quarter. Our net profits have increased by 65%.” My secretary respectfully handed me a document.

Dressed in a tailored work suit, I stood before the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the entire city.

Within the span of three years, I had worked my way up from the bottom and become Summer Group’s current head. The market value of the company had increased threefold in that time, and the finance magazines had even praised me for having Midas’ touch in business.

In stark contrast to this, Jenson Group’s financial situation had been going downhill. The plummeting stock price was a constant source of worry for Caleb.

Still, he hadn’t stopped searching for me all these years. It wasn’t until today that he finally saw me, attending Summer Group’s annual press conference as my father’s representative.

Caleb couldn’t tear his gaze away from his TV screen.

I, the woman he hadn’t seen in three years, was clad in a striking business suit that

accentuated my slender shoulders, as well as the newest pair of heels from a world-renowned designer.

When the camera panned closer to show me signing a document, he noticed that the customised wedding ring he had gotten me was nowhere to be seen.

“Book the next available flight to Yarlia.”

In the process of snatching up his suit jacket, he accidentally knocked over his coffee cup. The dark brown liquid instantly stained the report on his desk that showed the company’s losses in the third quarter.

“Wait, forget that. Request permission to use the airways. I’m taking my private plane.”

His assistant hurriedly stopped him, looking anxious. “But you have an appointment with the
