When Maddox quickly picked up his phone as soon as it rang, I couldn’t help but get suspicious and to add on to it, he got up and moved a few feet away as he looked down at his phone screen.
I didn’t get up right away but watched him closely as he just let the phone ring.
“Aren’t you going to answer that?” I asked, my eyes narrowed.
“Nope,” he said casually while still looking down at his screen.
“Why not? It won’t stop ringing.”
“It’s not important.” He shrugged like it wasn’t a big deal.
With a sigh of annoyance, he declined the call, but that didn’t put me at ease. It only made me feel worse. So I got up and approached him.
“Hmm, someone calls you at 1 AM and their call is not important?” I asked calmly.
“It’s really nothing.” He tightened his grip on his phone.
I glanced at it, then up at his face, my suspicion still strong. I had never been the type to check my boyfriend’s phone. I had never even done it while I was dating Mike.
“Even if it’s nothing, who was it?” I asked.
“Just work.”
I scoffed. “Work’s what made you get up that fast so I wouldn’t see anything?”
He forced a chuckle, but I could pick up on his annoyance. “What’s with all the questions?”
“No,” I said while shaking my head. “If you think that this is the part where I stop asking about it just because you’re getting annoyed, you’re wrong. Who was that?”
He sighed and for a moment, I thought he would tell me the truth, but he pressed his lips together and looked to the side.
I was so disappointed that I just wanted to leave the balcony.
I picked up my phone and walked past him as I said, “I thought we said no lies.”
I was just about to walk past the open glass doors when he rushed towards me and held my hand so he could pull me back. But I pulled away, not even looking back at him as I finally made it inside the bedroom.
He followed me again and this time, stood right in front of me and placed his hands on my shoulders.

“Hey,” he said softly while looking down at me, placing his fingers at the base of my chin.
I pushed his hand away like he had no right to touch me.
“I shouldn’t have reacted that way. I’m sorry.”
That apology meant nothing to me and he could tell from how I still refused to look up at him.

“That doesn’t solve anything. You still haven’t told me who that was. And don’t you dare say it was work one more time. You wouldn’t have rushed for your phone like that had that been true. Tell me the truth or don’t tell me anything.”
He chuckled, like that was actually funny to him, but I meant it so much that I didn’t even crack a smile and still looked to the side.
“I really didn’t want to say anything just yet, but I don’t like seeing you like this,” he said. “It’s your birthday next week and I’ve been working on a surprise for you. That was a call from an artist. They’re in a different time zone so it’s only 2 PM where they are. I only rushed to pick up my phone because I didn’t want you to see the name on the screen.”
That caught my attention a little and put me at ease, making me look up at his face with curiosity.
“When you say artist, do you mean music or-”
“Nope!” He placed his index finger on my lips. “That’s all I can tell you for now. If you want more details, just wait until your birthday.”
He came behind me, placing his hands on my shoulders and pushing me towards the bed.
The fact that he didn’t tell me more details only made me more curious and I wouldn’t let it go, so I looked over my shoulder, hoping to get more information out of him.
“Is the artist super famous?”
He chuckled, stopping in his tracks before kissing my neck and it was so sensual that I dropped my head to the side with my eyes shut.
He then sent shivers on my spine when he whispered right against my ear.
“Be a good girl and don’t ask any more questions. Can you do that for me?”
Fuck. I felt a wave of heat between my legs, making me nod instantly while still feeling his hot breath against my ear.
“Now…”
He trailed off as he trailed his hands down to my thighs. Then suddenly, he lifted me bridal style and I gasped as I wrapped my arms around his neck.
“Let’s
go to bed. It’ll be a long flight to Sydney in the morning.”

Chapter 171

I would’ve believed every word he had just said if not for the way he looked at me like he wanted to dominate me once again and the best part, I was going to love every second of it.
By 6 AM, we were awake, both standing in front of the mirror while we brushed our teeth. He should’ve just been focused as I was, but with his free hand, he kept pointing at the hickeys all over my neck. At that point, I’d gotten used to wearing so much makeup around that area just to cover it up.
I loved the feeling of him nibbling all over my neck but usually only realized afterwards that I’d have so much work to do just to cover up.
As I rinsed my mouth, my phone began to ring from the bedroom and Maddox and I shared a knowing look, wondering who was calling me so early.
I left the bathroom to check and as soon as I saw the caller ID, my lips curved into an eager smile. It was Zoey. The last time we’d spoken was a few hours earlier, when she’d left to meet Aiden so they could…talk.
“I didn’t think I’d be hearing from you so soon,” I admitted as soon as I picked up. “Done talking?”
“Oh yeah!” she whispered with satisfaction. “We talked all night. It was great.”
I raised my eyebrows. “And how did you talk?”
“Passionately.”
I pressed my lips together to hold in my laugh, but burst into laughter as soon as she did.
When I finally composed myself, I said, “You knew what you were going to do by meeting him at 1 AM.”
“Yup! And it was worth it. But we did talk before it led to anything else.”
“And?”
“He really wants us to try again and I said yes! We’re official now.”
I gasped with pleasant surprise. “That’s amazing! I’m so happy for you!”
“Thanks. Do you think I should tell Ella?”
“Of course you should. Imagine what it’ll be like if she finds out from someone else? You told her your feelings last time. That’s why you shouldn’t worry.”
