Lord Saintlight ground his teeth, his golden eyes webbed with red.
He knew Master Alaric Vale was telling the truth.
The power of the Eightfold Trigram Array had gone far beyond anything he had imagined.
If Master Alaric Vale had only been a Golden Immortal Realm Level Five cultivator, Lord Saintlight still might have had a chance to fight it out.
But Master Alaric Vale wasn't fighting alone.
He had three hundred disciples helping him hold the array together, and the Eightfold Trigram Array was amplifying his strength on top of that.
How was one man supposed to break something like that?
"Jared!"
Lord Saintlight snapped his head around and fixed his gaze on Jared.
"What exactly are you trying to do? I have no grudge against you. My people never harmed yours. Did you make a mistake?"
Jared stood at the edge of the Eightfold Trigram Array, the Dragonslayer Sword held crosswise before him.
His violet eyes rested on Lord Saintlight without the slightest ripple.
"Your agents wounded a woman in a dark-crimson gown in the Northern Abyss Frost Chasm."
His voice stayed even, but there was a coldness in it that crawled straight into the bone.
"She belongs to the Inferno Devil bloodline, but she was innocent. You should never have hurt her."
An image flashed through Lord Saintlight's mind.
His subordinates had once reported that they'd run into a group of demonic cultivators in the Northern Abyss Frost Chasm, and among them had been a woman in a dark-crimson gown.
At the time, he hadn't cared.
They were demons.
If they died, they died.
He hadn't expected this. All because one woman had been hurt, Jared had brought the three hundred disciples of Ashford Hollow straight to the Hall of Radiance for revenge.
"For one woman?"
Disbelief cracked through Lord Saintlight's voice.
"You brought three hundred people to kill your way into my Hall of Radiance... for one woman?"
Jared didn't answer.
He only raised the Dragonslayer Sword.
Violet chaos-flame ran along the blade and swelled hotter and hotter until it condensed into a hundred-yard arc of violet sword energy.
"Your people hurt her."
Jared's voice was quiet, but every word went in like a knife.
"So all of you die."
The sword came down.
Not at Lord Saintlight.
At the mountain gate.
The hundred-yard violet sword energy crashed into the mountain gate and split the entire structure clean in two.
White jade exploded in every direction, and the saintlight sigils carved into the gate burned away under the chaos-flame until not even ash remained.
"You—"
Lord Saintlight's eyes went bloodshot as golden saintlight erupted wildly from his body, driving his cultivation to the peak of Golden Immortal Realm Level Five.
He lifted the golden sceptre. The sunstone at its tip blazed with holy radiance beyond anything before, condensing into a golden orb the size of a human head, packed with enough power to wipe out an entire city.
"Saintlight Judgement!"
The golden orb tore free of the sceptre, trailing a long tail of gold fire as it screamed toward Jared.
The air ignited in its wake. The ground split open beneath it, a trench several feet deep gouged through the earth, the stone inside melted by the heat into red molten fire.
Jared watched the golden orb hurtling straight at him, and not a flicker of fear touched his violet eyes.
He didn't retreat. He didn't dodge.
He didn't even bother to block.
He simply thrust out one clean, uncomplicated strike.
The instant the tip of the Dragonslayer Sword touched the golden orb, violet chaos-flame detonated and billowed outward into a massive wave of purple fire that swallowed the orb whole.
Golden saintlight thrashed inside the violet fire, twisting and bucking like prey with its throat locked in a predator's jaws. It writhed, fought, howled—and still couldn't break free of the devouring chaotic force.
Jared gave the sword tip a light flick, and the golden orb trapped inside the chaos-flame changed direction and flew back at Lord Saintlight.
Lord Saintlight's pupils shrank.
He tried to evade it, but the orb was too fast. Worse, after being swallowed by the chaos-flame, it had turned even more unstable.
