Chapter 116
“Even my own daughter must make sacrifices for the pack,” I thought
grimly, hauling her up the stairs despite her resistance.
Kim’s sobbing grew louder, but I knew the drug would soon override
her reluctance. “The wolf’s bane will make her more compliant,” I
assured myself. “By morning, this will be done, and Phillips will be
obligated to us.”
When we reached the door to the guest bedroom, I paused, listening.
There should have been sounds of Noah moving around, affected by
the drug. But there was silence. A flicker of unease ran through me.
“Something’s not right,” I whispered to Thomas, who had followed us
-up.
I pushed Kim against the wall beside the door, making sure she
couldn’t run, then turned the handle and pushed the door open.
The scene inside stopped my heart for a moment. Noah Phillips was
sitting upright on the bed, fully clothed and completely alert. His
eyes locked onto mine with a clarity that should have been impossible given the dose of wolf’s bane he’d consumed.

“How?” The word escaped my lips before I could stop it.
Noah stood slowly, his movements steady and deliberate. The fury in
his eyes made me take a step back. “Antidote,” he said simply. “Iris figured out your plan and gave me something to counter the effects.”
My mind raced. Antidote? How could she have known? And where
would she get-
“Catherine Stone,” Noah’s voice cut through my thoughts, cold and
formal. “As of this moment, any relationship between Phillips and
Stone is terminated. I’ll be informing the Council of your actions
tonight.”
“Noah, please,” I stammered, desperately trying to regain control of
the situation. “You misunderstand. We were just-”
“Trying to drug me and your daughter into a forced mating?” he
finished for me. “Then when that failed, you were planning to use
your own drugged daughter instead?” His eyes flicked to Kim, who
was slumped against the wall, tears streaming down her face.
“It’s disgusting,” he spat, grabbing his jacket from the chair. “To think
I once respected your pack.”
As he pushed past us toward the stairs, my world seemed to collapse

around me. “Noah, wait! The Stone pack needs-”
“The Stone pack,” he cut me off with a glare that froze the words in
my throat, “is no longer any concern of mine or my pack. Goodbye,
Catherine.”
I stood there, unable to move as his footsteps receded down the stairs
and the front door slammed shut. The silence that followed was
deafening.
“What have you done?” Thomas hissed beside me, his face contorted
with rage. “What the hell were you thinking? First Grey, now Phillips
-we’ve lost two major allies in one night!”
“Me?” I whirled on him, desperation making my voice shrill. “This was
your brilliant idea! ‘Let’s invite Noah over,‘ you said. ‘Iris will respond
to the pressure,‘ you said. Well, look where that got us!”
Thomas stepped closer, his finger jabbing toward my chest. “Don’t
you dare put this on me! I suggested approaching Noah normally, not
drugging him like some kind of animal!”
“Like you had any better ideas!” I screamed back. “What have you
contributed except criticism? At least I’m trying to save what’s left of
our pack’s status!”
