Chapter 130
Sebastien’s POV
I stood in the lobby of Crescent Design, barely listening as Marcus
prattled on enthusiastically to Iris about reconsidering her
resignation. The sight of her–calm, collected, and utterly unmoved
by Marcus’s pleas–stirred something uncomfortable in my chest.
“Isn’t that right, Sebastien?” Marcus turned to me, clearly seeking
backup.
I looked up, my eyes briefly meeting Iris’s before shifting to Marcus. “Enough, Marcus,” I said flatly. “If she’s made up her mind to leave for
a rival, we don’t beg for loyalty.”
I crushed my cigarette under my shoe with unnecessary force and
walked out, not waiting for a response. Something about seeing her
there, so composed and confident despite everything, had gotten
under my skin.
Back in my office, I found myself unable to focus. The image of Iris standing in the lobby, folder of designs clutched protectively under her arm, kept intruding on my thoughts. What exactly had she been
retrieving? And why did she seem so… different?

My phone rang, breaking my reverie. Marcus Foster.
“What is it?” My voice was clipped as I answered.
“Sebastien, we’ve got a situation.” Marcus’s voice came through,
uncharacteristically urgent. “The werewolf social circles are
absolutely buzzing. Megan’s plagiarism of Aurora’s work is spreading
like wildfire. Even the human design community is catching wind of
it.”
I leaned back in my leather chair, processing the information. This
was moving faster than I’d anticipated.
“The company’s stock has already started to drop,” Marcus continued,
his voice strained. “We can’t risk our reputation for someone with
such questionable ethics. It’s affecting the Grey family’s standing in
the werewolf community too.”
I drummed my fingers against the mahogany desk, weighing the
implications. Megan had been useful once, but loyalty only extended
as far as value provided. And she’d just become a liability.
“Let her go,” I said, my tone cold and final. No emotion, just business.
“I won’t tolerate anyone who betrays our company’s values.”
“I’ll handle it first thing tomorrow,” Marcus replied, relief evident in

his voice,
After hanging up, I swiveled my chair toward my computer and pulled up the design competition rankings. Second place: Iris Stone. First
place: Aurora.
Something clicked in my mind. The pieces suddenly fit together.
“She’s better than I thought,” I muttered, staring at the screen. “And
she never once showed it around me.”
A strange feeling gnawed at me–something between irritation and…
was it admiration? I thought back to all the times Iris had worked
quietly at the company, her head down, her talent hidden. I thought
about her in the lobby tonight, clutching that folder of designs-
designs good enough to win second place in a prestigious
competition.
Why had she concealed such skill? What else didn’t I know about her?
The realization that I’d had a design genius living under my roof
without recognizing it rankled me. I’d dismissed her as merely
competent, a pawn in our arranged marriage. Yet here she was,
outshining everyone, including Megan, who I’d once considered
gifted.

I grabbed my car keys and headed out. The night air was cool against
my face as I drove toward the estate where Iris and I had lived
together. Our house. Though I supposed it was just mine now. The
thought felt oddly hollow.
During the drive, my mind kept returning to Iris. How calmly she’d
