Jealousy Alpha’s Regret
Chapter 142
The next morning, I woke earlier than usual. Today marked the anniversary of my father’s death my real father, the only person in the Stone family who had truly loved me. I walked to my closet and selected a simple black dress, appropriate for visiting the cemetery.
Standing before the mirror, I studied my reflection. My face looked composed, but my eyes revealed the emotional weight of the day. “Dad, I’ve finally sorted everything out,” I whispered to my reflection. “You can rest easy now.”
A flicker of fatigue crossed my features. Between the confrontation with Catherine, the pregnancy, and now my father’s death anniversary, my body was demanding rest. But this day wasn’t about me it was about honoring him.
I glanced out the window and noticed raindrops beginning to streak down the glass. “Even the weather is mourning you today, Dad,” I thought with a sad
smile.
After a light breakfast, I watered the houseplants, remembering how my father used to do the same on rainy days. “Plants still need care, even when it rains, he would say. “Nature knows what it’s doing, but sometimes we need to help a little.”
The memory was so vivid I could almost hear his voice. “It’s been years, but I still feel your presence in the smallest things, I thought, gently touching a
leaf.
When the clock struck eleven, I picked up my umbrella and the bouquet of white flowers I’d prepared for him. Taking a deep breath, I headed out to pay my
respects.
)
The drive to the cemetery was peaceful. I stopped at a flower shop to pick up fresh white blooms – my father’s favorite. At Moonshade Cemetery, one of my father’s old pack members held an umbrella for me, but it did little to shield me from the profound loneliness I felt.
Standing before my father’s gravestone, I placed the flowers gently at its base. The rain had slowed to a drizzle, drops occasionally falling from the trees above. I reached out to wipe some water from his photograph, where his kind smile remained unchanged by time..
My fingers traced the engraved letters of his name. I’m doing well now, Dad,‘ I said silently. “You don’t need to worry about me anymore. I’ve found my own
path, free from the pack’s constraints.”
After a few more minutes of silent communion, I turned to leave, feeling both drained and strangely at peace.
As I approached the cemetery exit, I caught a familiar scent that made my heart skip. Near my car was another vehicle I recognized immediately. Sebastien
Grey’s car.
My pulse quickened. ‘What a coincidence that he’s here today too, I thought, scanning the area.
Then I saw him tall and imposing in a black suit, his face as cold and handsome as ever. His silver gray eyes seemed especially bright against the gloomy day. Our gazes locked from across the distance, neither of us making a move to greet the other.
I decided to walk straight to my car. There was nothing left to say between us.
As I was about to pass him, Sebastien’s voice broke the silence. So the reason for the divorce was just finding out you weren’t related by blood? Decided the Stone pack wasn’t worth your loyalty anymore?”
